Sick again - and so needing to pull myself together :(
When I was sick last week, I know someone warned me that this whatever-I-have-but-I'm-avoiding-the-flu-word would clear up and then come back worse.
Well it has. I am operating at about 20% this morning. And the weather here is cold and clammy. In fact, this started to come on yesterday after I came home from running errands - in and out of the car, including pumping gas in the rain.
Yuck. I hate to complain. But I have a lot to do. The Downzers and Maddy and I are headed down to Virginia Beach on Friday for the big Worldwide Challenger Baseball Jamboree we go to each year. This will be the first year without Tripp - who is normally the coach of their team.
Before I leave, I need to complete a project which will be my Mother's Day gift to my readers - check back for it on Friday morning.
And my college kids are coming home Sunday - Sophia with a broken ankle and very vocal about her expectations that I will take care of her :)
So I need to be well for that.
Other exciting events coming up this month:
May 12: Daniel's birthday
May 16, Jonny, Jesse, Daniel and Justin make their First Communion at St. Francis de Sales in Purcellville at 9:00 Mass. We are so excited as they have had a wonderful CCD teacher who has a background in Special Ed and who has known exactly how to make this a meaningful and authentic experience for them.
May 21 Rehearsal Dinner for Ben and Anna at our house - I'm making chicken curry for about 40 people as their are out of town guests and all the groomsmen and friends are staying at our house beginning the day of the bachelor party May 20. I'm reeling at the thought of stocking the house with food for so many guys. And sleeping arrangements.
May 22 Ben and Anna's wedding - my only worry was dressing everyone, but I hit a sale at J.C. Penny's yesterday and used a gift card I'd received last fall to get the boys suits for First Communion and the wedding.
May 26 my birthday
May 28 Jesse's birthday
Then maybe I can relax.
Tripp is out getting the car tuned up for me to drive to Virginia Beach. Right now, I think I'll put in another load of laundry and go back to bed.

Hi, Barbara ! I hope you'll be feeling better soon. The weather here is yucky too. You're in our prayers. Sounds like you've got quite a month ahead of you, try to get some rest while you can.

The coincidences in our lives are astounding. I also need to take the family transportation to get a tune-up at to some Ford dealer across the street from where I work because the Chrysler Dealership went under.
I’m sure whoever thought up having that wonderful CCD class had a teacher like the one you described in mind.
Food for thought: Older people develop allergies when they get older that they didn’t have before and the pollen count is going up thanks to the rain. If you don’t have a fever it is worth considering.

Barbara, What a very busy month you have ahead of you! I will pray for your family especially this month.
A wedding, birthdays and First Communions are the best of life! I love seeing the First Communion children on their special day! They just GLOW!
Congratulations to Jonny, Daniel, Jesse, and Justin! I would love to know how their special ed. CCD teacher prepped them for receiving Holy Communion because I have a 3 year old who I very much want to receive the Sacraments when he is old enough. Maybe after your busy month is over, you could let me know! Thanks, Julie

Barbara:
I remember reading at one point that your three youngest sons had not yet expressed faith in Jesus.
Have things changed since then? Or do you feel that is not necessary before they take communion? Is that the Catholic belief?
I am just curious--you don't have to answer.
[My three youngest sons have Down syndrome, so they would not necessarily express faith in Jesus according to the evangelical template.
In Catholicism, infants are baptized soon after birth. For older individuals coming into the Catholic Church, if you have been baptized in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, you are considered baptized and ready for the sacraments of Reconciliation (formerly known as Confession) and Holy Communion.
Since Maddy and Jonny had been baptized as Evangelicals, their next steps were the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. Jesse, Daniel and Justin had been dedicated in an evangelical church, but never baptized in water, so that is where they will start on May 16, followed by joining in their First Communion.]
