Children: the Challenge - classic parenting advice

When I started parenting - in 1969! - there weren't that many how-to-parent books around. I don't envy today's parents, who face a staggering choice. How in the world to choose?

As I was posting this morning's questions on tantrums, power struggles and control, it occurred to me that you want to know what I used when I started parenting.

I found this book because it was recommended when I took my Montessori teacher training. Samantha was three years old. I absorbed the principles and have been using them now for 36 years - remember, I still have five at home - simply because they work.

While it has been updated, I guess it has been outsold by more trendy authors with modern titles and bright new covers. The upside is that anyone interested in the time-tested wisdom of this approach can get a copy for a penny (plus shipping) at Amazon:

This is a classic case of the wheel never needing to be reinvented. Notice the 55 reviews at Amazon - it's seldom you see that kind of unanimous acclaim for a parenting book.

Love,

Thanks, Barbara! I just ordered this book! Can't wait to get it in. I may have to put Les Mis aside to get through this one. After reading excerpts of the book on amazon this may be just what I've been looking for. There was an interesting excerpt on shy children, that was very enlightening. It describes my 3 yr old to a T. Thanks again!!
