Cleaning the refrigerator - and loving each moment

vintage fridge.jpg

Woke up this morning and started the normal routine: making health smoothies for the family (it takes two huge blender-fuls and is worth every penny and minute in how much it has saved my kids from going to the doctor's office since November 2008).

Getting out the papaya, I grabbed an apple from the vegetable drawer that needed to have a bad spot cut off before the whole thing went (been being super-conscientious about not wasting food) - when, out of the blue, I found myself CLEANING MY ENTIRE REFRIGERATOR!!

A half hour later, it was shining and offering my family an assortment of food they could actually see clearly enough to find - and I felt like I was waking from a delicious dream to an even better reality!

Does this happen to you? I know it's a little thing, but I contrast that with the way I sometimes drag myself grumbling to an overdue task. I love it when God just kinda takes me by the hand and says, "Let's do this! Now!"

I have built a history of finding God in my laundry routine, but this is truly a first with my refrigerator.

So now I'm gonna pray for more moments like this - more willingness and joy in my work. every single little thing.

Love,

That's funny, because I had almost the same experience today -- except it was my freezer. It was sadly neglected and frozen over, but now I have lots of extra space, and can see everything. What a great feeling!

I remember helping my mom with chores and how much I love polishing the silver for her! Funny- I feel about vaccuuming what you feel for laundry and the fridge! (Mine is overdue for a cleaning too...) There's something so satisfying about getting all the little dust specks off the floor and decimating the dust bunnies!

I love feelings and events like this. Happens to me when I'm cleaning a bedroom... I bend over, meaning to just put the shoes in an orderly fashion under the bed, but then it moves onto changing the sheets on the bed, flipping the mattress, pulling the curtains down to wash them, dusting all the furniture, cleaning out, refolding then putting back all the clothes in the dressers, straightening up all the hanging clothes then vacuuming the carpet.

I cleaned mine yesterday with a considerably worse attitude, I must say. But it being clean and more efficient is a revelation!

How funny that you wrote this. I was just thinking about your smoothies this morning and pondering if we should start that!

It's funny how the little things - a clean fridge, a neatly mowed lawn - can bring such happiness! How good God is to provide joy moments built into our every day lives!
