  • Noisy Nora
    Noisy Nora
Poor Nora! The loveable mousette experiences all the pangs of the child-in-the- middle, caught between the demands of baby brother and bossiness of big sister. Catchy meter, playful illustrations make for a wonderfully satisfying mouse's tale. Baby-Preschool

Down syndrome awareness: My Sister, Alicia May

my sister alicia may.jpg This is a special book giveaway. To enter you must have a child with Down syndrome with at least one sibling.

Monday, July 6 at 9am I will pick two winners for the two copies Pleasant St. Press so graciously have provided.

I love the book!!! It is so authentic and so real and illustrates so beautifully the sentiments of siblings of children with Down syndrome. Although the focus is positive, there is attention given to the negative feelings - which will be a great way to stimulate your children to share honestly about their own.

From a Christian point of view - that every life has value in God's eyes:

She peers long and hard at crickets and June bugs and dragonflies, She watches ladybugs warm themselves on our red door.

Then she counts their dots: "One lady dot, two lady dot, three lady dot . . . "

I think God is glad someone notices these things.

Authentic, real and beautifully illustrated. Love it!

As usual, I would love to be entered in the contest. ;-) My 3 Downsie girls have 5 siblings. The four oldest siblings are forever telling me which of their special siblings they intend to live with them after my dh and I are gone. They definitely consider the Downsies as a positive in their lives.

I don't want to win the book for myself. I am asking to enter for my friend, Dawn, who is away with her family on vacation so wouldn't have a chance to enter. She is an amazing Mom of 5 children, her second to youngest is Down Syndrome. They are a beautiful family, I'd love to win the book for her.

Barbara, please don't enter me in the contest, I was fortunate to receive a review copy of this lovely book. My girls laughed and cried through many readings of "My Sister Alicia May" and couldn't believe that the illustrations weren't photos. Did you know that Shennan Bersani, the artist has a sister with Ds? It shows in her work.
I LOVE the excerpt you quoted, I still can't read those lines without choking up!
