Michelle Obama bringing glamor to Russia?

I found this a little obnoxious:

Michelle Obama bringing glamour to Moscow

Michelle Obama brings her superstar glamor to Moscow this weekend as she accompanies her husband on his summit with the Russian president.

But the American first lady, who has wowed publics in the U.S. and Europe with her easy elegance and charm, will perhaps face a bigger challenge in winning over a Russian public that has scant respect for women who grab the limelight from their powerful husbands.

First of all, I don't for a minute think it matters what MO wears - the media will dictate that we perceive her as a Monument to Fashion.

I think she's pretty inconsistent - from some really great, flattering looks to some ridiculous get-ups that she seems to favor when going overseas - kinda like a Miama tourist:

Today in Russia, here's what the Russians - told that she would bring them glamor - saw our First Lady arrive in (the Obamas are also breaking all kinds of cultural taboos there by giving Michelle a prominent position and by bringing their children - but, hey! They Are The Obamas):

Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't really have a comment on the woman's clothes - except for the Government Media decreeing that she is a fashion icon not only for us but for the entire globe.

Does anyone else feel like The Emperor's New Clothes?

What was her stylist thinking??? these outfits need to go back to the drawing board.
I don't like the new clothes. I don't think that she will after seeing herself~S~

My teen daughter and 20 something neices would definitely think this is NOT a good look for her. who cares? A nice looking dress suit would have been much more appropriate. And Sarah Palin took flak for her wardrobe, gimme a break! Julie

Well, at least they have family values and spend time with their kids, and each other. That trumps fashion sense to me.

[The issue was the Government Media insisting that she is a fashion icon to the world when the evidence says no.

What does that have to do with spending time with your kids?

But some people are pretty touchy when it comes to BO and MO :)]

I hope that Linda's comment was written w/tongue in cheek. Not to criticize anyone, but I have been continually amazed by how much time BO DOESN'T seem to spend at home. Understandably, presidents travel, but what about all the town hall meetings, or the trips he takes to promote his programs? I don't buy the hype that used to be promoted, i.e., quality time over quantity. Both matter.

Well, Barbara, you just said it for me. It's got nothing to do with family values. It's the image that the MSM foists on us. Fashion icon! Sheesh! Pleeease. Spare me that and MO's bare arms. Good grief.

Sarah Palin has style and looks PLUS the substance. And she spends time with children that the Obamas believe could be aborted.` Who really has family values?

I'm not really into fashion, so I'm not sure I always know what is in fashion and what isn't. However, most of what she is famous for is LL Bean isn't it, which isn't exactly trend setting.

On the other hand, I remember that first (horrible!) outfit. She wore that in France, and I believe it was supposed to be some up and coming French designer, so worn as a nod to their fashion industry.

[Actually, she wore that in England]

I personally have not liked hardly any of the clothing I have seen her wear. From that first black widow dress to that awful shirt in the top pic. Anyone can wear what they want, but she really would have looked nice in a - well, a lot of other things. Those are just awful.

I think she really doesn't know how to dress like a First Lady at all, and it's weird that the media keeps proclaiming her so fashionable when, in fact, she's the least fashionable First Lady of my lifetime. I think it's a way of trying to brainwash us into thinking the First Lady is a classier woman than she really is.

Ha! I also said LL Bean and as you posted later, it was J. Crew. Told you I was fashion clueless! ;)

At least she covered her armpits this time.
