Obama girls used to shill J. Crew
My, my, my. I thought the girls were supposed to be so protected:Profiting off the Obamas
J. Crew hawks first daughter clothes
J.Crew is using Sasha and Malia Obama to market some of its spring and summer styles, in a press release sent ...
... to reporters Monday afternoon titled "The Obama Girls Bring Some American Style to Moscow."
"Malia & Sasha wore J.Crew and crewcuts as they exited Air Fore One in Moscow -- stylish in their trenches, they also accessorized with ballet flat shoes," the release says.
The notice includes two photographs of Sasha and Malia deplaning Air Force One with their parents and an image of the J.Crew logo.
It also offers details about the specific items each of the Obama daughters wore on the way to Moscow and after their arrival, including the prices and style numbers for each piece.
Malia, for instance, was sporting the Silk Taffeta Trench ($298) and black satin ballet flats with contrast trim ($98), the e-mail notes. Whereas Sasha, 8, was wearing the girls' crushed twill trench ($169.99) and girls' minna printed ballet flats in classic navy ($108).Read entire article at Politico.

Wasn't that one of the ethics lawsuits brought against Sarah Palin? That she wore a coat that showed a label? (thereby promoting some company). Or did I hear that right?

I want a $300 coat and $100 shoes.
Really, I don't. What's the point? That is just stupid to spend so much on a kid.

I have yet to see that the Obamas are actually in league with J. Crew. Maybe I'm naive, but when I see something I like, I sometimes buy similar styles in a the same brand for all my kids. Maybe Michelle does the same, or maybe the girls themselves picked out the clothes. Is it possible that J. Crew saw that the girls were wearing their clothing and immediately capitalized on it with their email?
As for spending $300 on a coat, it's really none of our business, is it? This is the Presidential family...They can afford it. I'm not in any way a fan of Obama's politics, but this is just petty. It reminds me of all the Liberal snottiness about every little detail of the Bush's public life. I remember one year the twins were publicly lambasted for looking "too matronly." Who cares? Let's stick to the real issues here.
[Stephanie - the real issue is our fawning press. And media bias. Anyone remember the hoopla over Sarah Palin's wardrobe - which, btw, was purchased by a credit-card happy aide and blamed on her by the media?
There is indeed a REAL issue - and that's a People magazine press and double standards for the Obamas and conservatives.
Obama girls take Russia by storm? With that breathless headline, need I say more?
And, btw, I don't take well to younger mothers telling me what I should or should not write about at my blog :) - you might not either in 20 or 30 years. ]

Not sure where I told you what you could post on your own blog? Maybe the comment "Let's stick to the real issues here?" Most of my comment was responding to this one:
I want a $300 coat and $100 shoes.
Really, I don't. What's the point? That is just stupid to spend so much on a kid.
...which had a really snarky tone, to me. I should have been clearer that the comment was (mostly) not directed at you. You've approved some pretty caustic comments in the past without necessarily responding to them, so perhaps I came off as more critical than I intended. :) If so, I apologize.
I have spent a lot of time on liberal websites trying to understand where they are coming from, and nitpicking/sarcasm/criticizing peoples' kids/etc reeeeaaaaalllly does nothing to make me even want to understand their views (not that I could ever agree with them, LOL). I contend that the same kind of snarkiness from conservatives does nothing to "reach the left from the right."
I agree that there's a double standard. I do remember the bruhaha over Sarah's wardrobe which I also thought was ridiculous. That's why I wonder if it's really wise to respond with like toward the Obama girls, or if it's better to simply point out the inconsistency? I understood where you were coming from much better when you clarified in your response to my comment.
