Teachers fed up with NEA and unions: join AAE

What good news for teachers who think there is no alternative to paying expensive dues to unions that use a major part of their assets to advance political causes out of synch with their own!

After running Peter Heck's column, It's Time For Us to Fly, Christian Teachers, I received this email:

Dear Barbara,

Regarding your information from Peter Heck about alternatives to the NEA: He didn't mention an outstanding organization where teachers all across the country are finding a way out of the NEA, namely, the Association of American Educators. Please post the following to your website to more fully inform your readers of teachers' options:

All teachers who oppose the NEA's practice of funding anti-family political agendas with their union dues should check out the Association of American Educators (AAE) where they can get liability protection, legal services, and professional support without the objectionable politics and for a fraction of the cost of union dues. See AAE's website.

RELIGIOUS OBJECTOR RIGHTS: Teachers who work in mandatory union fee states have the constitutional right to request religious objector status and send their union dues to a charity. Teachers can contact the AAE through the website at or by calling 800-704-7799 for more information.

Warmest regards!
