500 Days of Summer

500_days_of_summer.jpg

I loved this movie. Saw it last week with Maddy and one of her friends. It made me laugh and cry - at one point shifting from the former to the latter in the blink of an eye. Loved the concept, the whimsy, the crazy mixed-up time line - kind of like the way our memories work.

The tagline is: This is not a love story. This is a story about love. I don't really want to say anything else about it because I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone who's going to see it.

I'll be honest - Joseph Gordon-Levitt made this movie. I can't imagine anyone else in the male lead who would have evoked the sympathy he does

Rotten Tomatoes gives it 88% .

Caution: this is not a "clean" movie and you should read the review at PluggedInOnline to see if it would be okay for your teen to see. Probably with my first teens, I would have not seen it, but Maddy is my ninth and things do tend to get a little looser as you've been a parent longer. Also when you realize that even Shakespeare contains immoral elements, and that it's all in knowing how to discuss material with your kids and helping them draw conclusions.

I've loved Joseph Gordon-Leavitt ever since I first saw him on 3rd Rock From The Sun! Can't wait to see this!

Barbara,

I saved this post since you first wrote it a year ago, and I finally got around to renting the film at Netflix. I watched it last night.

LOVED this movie.

Just wanted to tell you. Movies are hard to make me laugh hard, because I find most comedies either juvenile, too potty-ish, or what-have-you. But I laughed hard on this and found its humor so quirky and hilarious.

Just wanted to say thanks!
