Family update

I am in Boston with the kids - Maddy, Jonny and Justin until Friday. It's a long drive and we are exhausted - in a good and fun way. I am typing this in the dark while the kids are still sleeping. We're going to take it slow and easy this morning. I may even let them watch cartoons on TV when they wake up. Then will walk around and see some of the sights here. I want to see where the Boston Tea Party was held. Also the International Children's Museum.

The hotel where we are staying is lovely and somehow I got on the Select Guest list so they bring free cookies and milk to the kids at night and coffee and juice in the morning. We cut corners by bringing our cooler with us :) And you would love to have seen me last night washing clothes in the bath tub and hanging them on hangers all over the room because we didn't plan to stay this long :)

Some of you were so kind to extend invitations but I hope you understand that I'm really making this trip all about the kids.

Things at home are going okay, I hear.

Zach's ticket from his motorcycle accident was dismissed last week. He is still going to physical therapy but recovering well and working hard to stay in shape. His date for going into the Marine OCS was pushed back to December to give him time to get his ankle in shape.

Matt is in New York today auditioning for a show on a cruise line. I'm going to try to see if he can come up here to join us tomorrow too.

Sophia has recovered from having her wisdom teeth removed (Tripp and I have a bad track record when it comes to combining DNA for our kids' jaws - all have desperately needed braces and wisdom teeth removal - which probably ate up all the money I saved in haircuts :) Tripp and Zach are driving her back to Liberty on Sunday - taking the seats out of our 12-passenger van (we used to have a 15-passenger) to make room for her furniture. She has to get to school early to audition for upcoming plays.

Wherever there's a Curtis, there can't be an audition too far away. . . .

Jesse and Daniel are home and going to summer camp - which they love.

Ben and Anna are settled in Charlottesville and have gotten over the hurdle of finding a post-college job. We are just two hours from Charlottesville so have seen them a couple of times. To tell the truth, my grown-up kids are so close, they would like to go down there every weekend - but their real life gets in the way.

Hattie was just given a relatively clean bill of health. Her cancer is something that has tgo be constantly monitored but right now her existing tumors have not grown and she doesn't need any procedures. Anyone who trusts a government healthcare plan should talk to Josh and Hattie as they will be the first to tell you that she owes her life to the fact that we have choice in health care. Under Obama/Congress's plan, she would either not be alive or be permanently paralyzed today.

My oldest daughter Samantha and Kip and their six children have been over every Sunday. You can tell it's not soccer season :) I can't believe how rich and full my life is. Anyone who thinks it would be too much work to have a big family isn't getting that the rewards are something that can't be matched with material things.

I am old enough to be living the part in the Bible that says children are like arrows and happy is the man (or woman) whose quiver is full. They are truly a reward from God.

Love,

Hadn't known about Hattie's plight. Having lost a precious
2 year old twin grand daughter to NB this year, I'm standing
in solidarity with you both!

Will be praying!

I get it, Barbara :) I really do... but my Dh is struggling with the thought of another... and frankly I cannot blame him...Neither of us came from large families... It takes extra faith to have a large family... Still, I'd love to have more... So I stay in prayer...I'm so thankful I am married to a godly man.. God will speak on this issue saying either yes or no, in his time...

I hope you all enjoy Boston! Hubby went there for college and I got the chance to visit him out there while we were dating. It really is a great city! If you're in the North End, check out Mike's Pastry- they really have some delicious canoli there:). And, it's a little pricey, but very worth it, Atlantic Seafood in town (I think it's in the Newbury street area) has some of the best chowder. If you go there for lunch it's $7/bowl, but with the bread and crackers they give you, it's quite a meal. Nice place, with good atmosphere and some of the best chowder (or chowda' as the Bostonites say...) in the city:).

You can tell my favorite activity is eating...;)

I hope all goes well for Maddy and for Hattie. Didn't know she was struggling with cancer at such young age. My prayers will be with both of them.

Cheers to the Curtises. I think that having a big family lends to having selfless, understanding and compassionate children grow and disperse amongst the people as a testament to God's grace.

I did picture you washing clothes in the bathtub and immediately thought of your washing machine or pill post and realized it was another case for the washing machine ;)

It's great to hear that you ended up with time to be tourists. Looking forward to hearing about the adventures when you're able to share more. Safe travels home.
