Catholic Church in Dallas/Ft. Worth/Grand Prairie
Promised I'd post this - any recommendations?
Barbara,I believe I have been called to the Catholic church for some time now, and was wondering if any of your Catholic readers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area (within a 20-30 minute drive of the Grand Prairie/Arlington area) could recommend a parish? I have been a member of a fairly conservative and traditional Episcopal (no longer part of TEC, we're in the Fort Worth diocese) parish in Arlington for the past few years and the local Catholic parishes I have been to are very liberal and "happy-clappy," if that makes any sense. I am looking for something traditional, possibly that encourages the Latin Mass, and conservative clergy. If you're not able to help, I understand.
I have enjoyed your blog for the past couple of years and was very interested to read about your conversion. I followed a link from Jen's blog, Conversion Diary, and became hooked. Keep up the good work!

Grand Prairie,
I grew up in Double Oak (Flower Mound area) and attended St. Ann Parish in Coppell, Tx. I haven't lived there in many years (Married my hero who's in the Army so its been a while since I have been back), but back then St. Ann Parish was a conservative church with a large congregation. It is a beautiful church as well. It is hard for me to remember exactly the distance so it may end up being too far for you to commute, but if not please give it a try! Best of luck, having lived in 10 places in the last 12 years I know how hard it can be to find a church home!

Grand Prairie -
Search this site for FSSP parishes - they do Latin Masses - maybe there is one near you.

Also, dadwithnoisykids blogs here: http://scorpionstalkingduck.blogspot.com/
and lives outside of Dallas. He might have some good recommendations.

I'm not sure if Irving is near Grand Prarie, but the University of Dallas is there, which is a good orthodox catholic univ, Dominican priests are in charge of that school I think well at least they are the ones celebrating mass there for sure.
Hope that helps.

Another Catholic blogger "Happy Catholic" is a Dallas resident I think maybe she can help

I'm in Richardson and unfortunately, my parish is also pretty happy-clappy :(. We used to attend Christ the King at Preston and Northwest Hwy, though, and I loved it for reverential music and liturgy. St Thomas Aquinas is also great for these (we went to Christmas vigil Mass and Holy Thursday there, both beautiful). They do have extraordinary form Masses there too.
St Ann's in Coppell may be good at normal Masses, but I am leery because of their all-out Life Teen Mass and the fact they don't have an organ even. I haven't been to UD but I bet the are pretty solid.
Hope those comments help!

You should consider networking with the moms in the bizymoms Grand Prairie community

I understand your situation because I was once Episcopal. I attend "Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church" at the corner of Warrior Trail and Corn Valley Drive. I believe you would find this church conservitive in pratice with a warm welcome for those who love Christ and tradition.
Their telephone number is (972) 262-0552. God help you in your search to find a church home.
Yours friend in Christ,
Rollie Lynch
