Obama's Catholic plan: divide and conquer
I don't know how I missed this brilliant analysis. It's something I'd been trying to put into words myself - especially as it relates to God calling home so many ex-Catholic evangelicals like Dr. and Martha Sears, Alex Jones, Jonathan Bennet, Richard John Neuhaus, Newt Gingrich, Francis Beckwith, at least a dozen families in my parish - and ours too (Read my journey by scrolling to the bottom of my Evangelical-Catholic journey).

My theory is that the Catholic Church is actually where the line is drawn in the sand with Obama and dependence on government vs. dependence on God. He has worked tirelessly to co-opt weak and confused Catholics - Catholics who equate "social justice" with his plan to build a monolithic government to "be our brother's keeper."
A faithful reader sent me this link. And though the timing seems delayed - since the video was out in May - the timing may be just right as I hear Obama is delivering the eulogy for Ted Kennedy - a pathetic example of Catholicism who traded any leadership potential with which God may have endowed him for the easy popularity and power he found in championing abortion rights.
How many babies' lives he might have saved! How much good he might have done!
And yet, we will see Our Glorious Leader co-opt yet another Catholic event/situation for his own political purposes.
Lord, I only hope he doesn't try to receive the Eucharist, which by virtue of the solemn beliefs we Catholics hold is off-limits to non-Catholics. I am praying now that he will not desecrate this sacrament.
Your thoughts?

I thought this was a great article that you might consider passing along to the rest of the readers. It's from American Thinker, so maybe you've already read it, but I thought it was great. It made me think of you and a lot of the great points you make here. :)

Barbara, can I go a little off-topic here? This is not a rant directed at you, because I think you will agree with me, but at some of the comments on that video and comments I have heard since Kennedy's death, and even some before that.
There is a difference between "No Christian should support X," and "If you support X, you are not really a Christian." When I became a Christian I still supported some things that were wrong, and still opposed some things that were good. It took time for God to work on my heart and show me the truth and teach me to really follow Him. He is still teaching and leading me, and there are plenty of areas where I am sure I am still wrong. But I can see no dividing line in my life, other than the one where I accepted Jesus as my Savior, where I can say, "Well, when I still thought that, I wasn't *really* a Christian, I just thought I was."
We need to stop holding up our yard stick to measure who is a Christian by who believes the right things about the right issues. A person can believe something totally wrong, something that totally goes against Scripture, even be in sin over the issue, and still be a Christian. What they need is for us to reach out as brothers and sisters and show them the right way! Lovingly correct and teach and guide them to God's truth.
If someone is really a "fake" Christian, truly not a real believer, God will sort that out. We have no need to!
Sorry to go off on a tangent, it was just the 200th time today I read, "ANY Christian who votes for a person that is for abortion does not believe in Jesus." Like it's not possible that Christians could be both sincere and mistaken.

Michelle, I believe that the Church has and does reach out lovingly to those who are on the wrong path. For example, the Pope graciously meets with American leaders and shares information about the Church's teachings on life issues. Also, many bishops exchange letters with and meet with prominent Catholic politicians to explain the Church's teachings when it appears they are advocating things at odds with the Truth. There is such a thing as Truth in the Catholic view. Teaching and explaining Truth is loving in itself. The Catholic Church is drawing the line in the sand and refusing to compromise on issues just to satisfy modern cultural opinion. Unfortunately, many Catholic politicians have compromised their beliefs in order to win votes.
