Thanksgiving books, activities, crafts, music film

thanksgiving pilgrims.jpgA couple of readers have asked me to republish my list of Thanksgiving books as last year I published them too late to buy for family preparations. Most are books I've used with my own children to help them understand the spiritual foundation and significance of this special day in our nation's history. Depending on where you live and who your children's teachers are, you can't always depend on that today.

I will be republishing all my Thanksgiving material in November (although you can see it all now by clicking my Thanksgiving category), but this is just to give you a head start in case you want to add any of these to your family's library.

Now is a great time, as Amazon is having their 4-for3 Sale

. Also, if you follow the links to amazon, you can find more information, customer reviews (which are always helpful), and often good prices for used books (though you have to pay individual shipping, and Amazon lets you choose free Super Saver shipping when you check out with more than $25 in purchases):

Here is my Thanksgiving round-up:

Thanksgiving picture books

In response to a request for picture books for younger readers, I found these, which do not refer to the history of Thanksgiving, but which introduce the concept of giving thanks and reinforce family bonds.

pilgrim boy.jpgI used an A Beka book called Pilgrim Boy with all my kids growing up. It's an early chapter book - second or third grade reading level - which tells the story of the Separatists' move to Holland and why they left for America on the Mayflower years later. The beauty of it is that it's told from a child's point of view. My kids loved it. Oh, and there are used copies as low as 77 cents at Amazon - even with the shipping, it's worth adding to your home library.

Love,
