Glenn Beck: 9-12 Moms show
See all 9-12 Mom entries here.
My latest article at Pajamas Media today (btw, a great site for news analysis - and be sure to check out Pajamas TV):
Who Will Speak for the Mothers? Glenn Beck!
A mother of 12 attends a special taping by Glenn Beck for a mothers-only audience. She comes away inspired.
Nancy from Jacksonville, Florida, a mother of three, in response to a MommyLife.net request for input on Glenn Beck:
I watch and love Glenn Beck because he's honest. Because he doesn't act like some pompous ass. Because he can put into words all the things I'm thinking but don't know how to say. He can ask all the questions I am asking, but don't know exactly how to ask. He's had a hard life, he's made some bad decisions ... he's normal ... he's not afraid to admit it when he's wrong. I also like him because he's funny. He knows how and when to be sarcastic to get a point across.
Liberals can't stand him because he's popular. Because his viewership is higher than all of the left/mainstream media put together. They have to find something wrong with him.
I think he's a breath of fresh air even when politics is old and dusty and full of the same ol', same ol'.
Nancy's comment was one of many in response to my call for positive input on Glenn Beck for this article. He seems to have struck a chord among mothers who find him to be -- among many other things -- honest, respectful, "talking to his audience rather than at them or above them," a straight shooter, "funny and logical at the same time," and not pandering or beholden to any particular group or party. A compendium of attributes all conservatives would do well to emulate.
Let's get one thing clear: I'm not a Glenn Beck groupie, though I'm very familiar with his work in my capacity as an alternative news source for mothers. While I don't watch television news -- even Fox News -- thanks to readers I receive clips, review them, and run those that resonate. Glenn Beck's frequently do.
As a longtime mommy blogger, my blog has unavoidably tilted so heavily towards politics for the past year that a passel of my passengers have jumped ship and have swum away as quickly as they can. Even so, my readership has grown -- and grown and grown and grown -- as mothers across the country realize that in addition to lunches, laundry, and lullabies we are being called to take a stand for our future and our families.
Sixty of us showed up last Thursday to tape a Glenn Beck special called "A Mother's Challenge: A 9-12 Report."
What I observed during the taping said a lot about who Glenn Beck is, what motivates him, and why ivory tower types -- both left and right -- will never get why he matters so much.

I watched you this morning, Barbara, from a FoxNews clip online. I really enjoyed it. You looked great and it was nice to match a voice with what we've been reading. :) I'm not a Glenn Beck groupie either. I don't even get the channel. I'm wondering why some on the right can't stand him. I understand why the left hates him but...there is one Catholic apologist who can't stand (and mocks) Glenn Beck. It really bothers me. Maybe I'll even email that blogger and ask him.

I found a couple of clips of your appearance on the show at the Fox News website. I loved it! You and all of the moms on there were so classy and intelligent in your comments and responses. I was cheering through the whole thing!

Barbara-
I was very upset that I would miss the Glenn Beck program with the moms because my family has opted not to subscribe to cable television service. However, I finally found a website that has the entire program available. I do not know anything about the site itself, but here is the link:
http://usaguns.net/patriots/beckmoms.html
I was so pleased to finally view the whole program and not just the clips. I hope it helps some of your other readers who didn't have access to the program on FOX.
Actually, I hope there's nothing illegal about watching the program on the internet...

Hi Barbara,
So glad I finally found your link!! I'm the mom at Glenn's 9-12 Moms taping sitting in the row behind to the left of you. I think I gave you my phone number too.
I've been following Glenn since 2000, and can see how he's evolved during this time, especially after 9/11/2001! Glenn is dead on target with what he says. Having been there and seen that (what Obama is doing), I can tell you that he absolutely gets it! He's funny and uses sarcasm which will always infuriate the pseudo-intellectuals who feel intellectually superior to all the rest, because they know they are being laughed at and ridiculed -- the one thing they absolutely cannot stand.
Having no cable TV subscription, I don't always follow him but every time I can catch his radio-show comments, I see the accuracy of his remarks and it takes my breath away. I passionately believe we must awaken the people, and Glenn is helping to do just that.
I'm looking forward to seeing tonight's show (a friend is kindly taping it for me), and seeing what else you and Mary Baker have to say.
Good luck and God bless.

We need to ask candidates if they will support The Mom ' s platform for 2010 . Here are a few suggestions : #1 ) No more debt . # 2 ) No new taxes or mandatory health care payments . #3 ) Spend only 95 % of revenue till debt is paid off . #4 ) The voters of each State shall decide all Abortion and reproductive law And only a unanimous veto by The Supreme Court may overturn our decision . ... pick up the ball and run with it !
