Obama 9/8 school address NOT canceled - curriculum modified
Working on an assignment this morning. Also have a piece at Pajamas Media I wrote yesterday.
Some interesting links from Drudge:
White House Withdraws Call for Students to 'Help' Obama...
Congressman warns of dictatorship...
SEN.: Obama 'trying to disavow all things that have made this country different from all others'...
Note #2: This does not mean his speech was canceled, as some are assuming. Read carefully. While in less than 48 hours, critics of this plan to "turn the hearts of American children to Obama" - you can quote me :) - were able to accomplish a small victory, though not a complete one, by any means.
The White House still feels the Executive Branch has the right to intrude into the public schools, gaining access to 50 million students without the oversight of parents. It has only agreed to modify the language of the suggested curriculum - presumably so it isn't so blatantly tailored to boost Obama's image.
There are still LOTS of problems. No one has addressed the fact that in the
But Michelle Malkin has done a superb analysis, tracing the roots of this kind of public school indoctrination - a must-read for parents with kids in public schools and anyone concerned with the Obama's ever-increasing consolidation of power from every corner of the culture (see last week's National Endowment of the Arts corralling of publicly-funded artists to begin promoting the Obamagenda):
Michelle Malkin: Obama's classroom campaign: No junior lobbyist left behind
As a Montessori teacher, parent educator, mother of 12 and grandmother of 12 I maintain that no matter how modified, this remains a blatant power grab and dangerous precedent for the future. Children are not subjects of the state. Public school parents - should they choose to keep their kids in public schools (as we have) - must become more informed, more vigilant, and more courageous in confronting this type of manipulation and exploitation of our children.
The overriding lesson for conservatives is that regardless of the backlash (Obama supporter bites off finger of senior citizen???), our voices and our numbers make a difference.
If you haven't already, do consider coming to the 912 March on Washington. You can make a difference!!!

Barbara, I have come to really appreciate the parents who still have their children in the public school system - such as yourself. I also appreciate your ability and willingness to speak up when there are things you agree with.
While I have a right to complain about things to the local school system because I pay taxes - my words do not carry the same weight as someone who has children in the system.
So, thanks (!) to you and to all of you public school parents who work hard to make things better and safer for many children. Thanks, too, for taking the time to talk things through with your kids at home. My hat is off to all of you!

Hmmm, lets see. The most polarizing partisan President ever has his Secretary of Education send a letter to school principals across the nation telling them POTUS will address the nation’s “schoochildren” and they should refer to the accompanying lesson plans whilst participating in this unprecedented event. And you have no issue with that because you just love the guy. Fine. That is your prerogative, just as it is mine to protest the participation of my child my private parochial school. (My school is not participating by the way. Responsible parents FTW.) Parents are the decision makers, followed by elected school boards and superintendents. The Secretary and the Prez attempted a complete usurpation of the power of parents across the nation and all the MSM and Libs can whine about is that we don’t want our children indoctrinated. Nice dodge but those of us who are paying attention fully understand that it is that usurpation of power and the ridiculous lesson plans that are the issue here. This is the missing link. No other President who has addressed the nation’s children - voluntarily, I might add - has had the arrogance and stupidity to provide a read about my magnificent but still unverified life story”and/or write about how you can help POTUS instruction.
Obama and his cronies completely overstepped on this one and they are the ones who should be lambasted for their mistake. You know full well that if W had made such a poor move, heads on the Left would have exploded. Anyone with any intellectual honesty would recognize this.
