Mommy Patriots - striking a balance

IMG_4667-1.JPG

This picture of a Mommy Patriot with her family taken at the Dunn Loring Metro station on the morning of the 9/12 March on Washington - you know, the one reputed to be a mob of angry, hostile racist people.

A longtime MommyLife reader left this comment on one of my posts this morning:

It is things like this that made me decide to take a few steps back, shut out the media and focus on my family at home. I feel like we are in a war. I read the news everyday. When I am not reading the news, I am still thinking about it. I have so much stuff going on in my head that I can't even focus on being a wife and momma. I am taking a break from this mess. If America is going to fall apart the least I can do is be the best mother I can be in the meantime. I want to do my part in raising a better generation than my own. We are such a selfish bunch of people. It is amazing God still shows us mercy.

Blessings in fighting the good fight Mrs. Curtis.

Mrs. Damian Garcia

Mrs. Garcia,

I know what you mean. I am sick and disgusted that I have had to spend my whole morning on bringing you up to speed on current political crises. This is not how I want to spend my time. And it's not how any of us want to spend our time.

I long for the day - if it ever comes - when we can leave the leadership of our country in hands which are at least somewhat trustworthy and turn our full attention once again to our children.

One of the conservative women I meet with monthly expressed the same frustration when we were together last week - that we are being compelled to make this monumental effort of informing ourselves because we know the future of the country - and our children - is at stake.

In my Mommy Patriots - A Call to Arms I mentioned that the only hope we have is to become the best mothers we can possibly be, to ratchet up the skill level we bring to the job of nurturing and teaching our children. We need to be good stewards. We have to discard anything unnecessary or frivolous in the way we spend our time and money.

We must continue to educate ourselves and to pass on everything we possibly can to our children. If our kids are in public schools, we need to monitor their experience closely and call the teachers and administration on bias and abuses of power. We must assert our own authority so that it is clear that while we may be delegating our children's education to government schools, they are our servants (as in public servants), not vice versa.

We must become more bold and confident in speaking the truth to those around us who have been lulled by the mindless entertainment and government propaganda carried by the Tired Old Media. If your friends and neighbors are watching The View and forming their opinions based on those vicious cackling shrews, you will just have to be a kinder, gentler voice who speaks common sense, compassion and FACTS.

I will continue trying to strike a balance here at MommyLife - sifting through the avalanche of bad news each day to try to crystallize, summarize and analyze. It may be hard to believe, but there is much I don't bring to your attention because . . . well, because we can only handle so much. I try to highlight the essentials.

But I will also continue and step-up my posts on how to build the best next generation we can build. Right now that means focusing on Thanksgiving and how to find the richness in this holiday to use it in our individual family legacies.

Take heart! You have the most important job in the world. Be informed, but be still and know that He is God.

Love,

Mrs. Curtis,

When you stated that you will try to keep a balance at MommyLife, I hope you didn't think I was implying that you didn't. I like that you have politics and motherhood intermingled. That is a consistent theme in the blogs I tend to read. As a mother I want to be informed and I don't always have the time to find the issues that the mainstream media doesn't carry. I have to step back because I feel myself stressed and right now I just can't take it any longer. The days are flying by and I want my children to remember me as a calm momma, not a high strung one. My children deserve better. My husband too.

Blessings to you -
Ouida Gabriel

[No, dear Ouida, I knew what you meant. It's just that I got up this morning planning to write about Thanksgiving and here it was - 1:00 and I'd posted 10 or more posts mostly about politics. I'd rather be posting more positive material. I think we need to remind each other, and I appreciated what you said.

I understand what you're saying, too, Mrs. Garcia.

I need to keep informed but then I have to step back, too, because it is all too much for me. I'm finding myself saying, "Jesus, I place my trust in thee" constantly now.
