Proposal stories

My son Zachary told me about a friend of his and Ben's from Liberty who proposed in a unique way:

He took his intended out to dinner on the anniversary of the beginning of the relationship, excused himself in the middle of the meal to go to the restroom.

He came out with his guitar, singing a song he had written especially for her.

And though she may have thought this was leading to a proposal, he didn't propose.liberty university mountain.jpg

Afterwards, he asked her to go for a walk on Liberty University Mountain. She said she couldn't because she'd already made plans to go for a walk there with her girlfriends. What she didn't know was that he had set that up with her girlfriends - and walking on the mountain, they just happened to run into the suitor and his friends.

And there he proposed in front of all their friends.

Isn't that the sweetest?

Which got me wondering whether any of you have proposal stories to share.

Love,

Here is one from my Daughter, Laura...

Andrew and I met at Frostburg State University as RAs and were madly in love within days of our first handshake. We spent Andrew's senior year (my junior) having a blast in the mountains of Western Maryland and I was sad to be spending my senior year without him.

On the morning of April 30th, 2005, Andrew was building a deck with his dad 2 hours East of FSU and I was working in the campus gym. I sent him a little email that morning to tell him I was thinking of him and he responded immediately with an "I love you. ;-)"

I made plans to meet one of my friends at the library after work, and when I walked into the lobby, she was waiting for me with a video camera. She gestured out the window where Andrew was standing on the patio in the rain. As it registered that he was even in town, he pulled a big sign up that said, "Rain..."

I was so confused! The sign behind it said, "Or shine..."

And then, "Will you..."

And lastly, "Be mine?"

As I tried to figure out what was going on, she pushed me to go outside. I'm not very good with surprises, so I walked outside, trying to understand why Andrew was even there. As I got to the corner of the building, I ran as fast as I could and then began walking again as I turned the last corner, just to give myself a little more time to calm down.

When I came around the corner, Andrew was holding a bouquet of roses. He got down on one knee and said, "Laura, I love you. Will you marry me?" I was so stunned that I said, "I hate you! ....yes!"

Since that day, every rainy day is a happy memory of a surprised kiss and a sparkling ring in the cold Frostburg rain.

My husband flew from NYC to Missouri where I was at college, and he proposed after supper in the dining room!

I was a Reservist and had drill that weekend. My boyfriend was to come down that Saturday night for our Christmas dinner the next day with the unit. I had forgotten my name plate for my uniform so I asked him to stop at my parents to grab one from my father (he was Active Duty).

Three hours after the time my boyfriend was supposed to be there, I called my parents to see if he had stopped in and what time he left. Come to find out, he was still there. I was *LIVID*!!!

I had to wait three more hours because that's how long it would take for him to drive down. When he got there, I was still very pissed off and he suggested we go get something to eat. We hit up the local McD's drive thru, got back to my room and after I had gone to the bathroom, I come back to him still sitting in the chair. I asked him if he was ok and he said "Yeah, but I have a question to ask you."

He pulled me into his lap, presented a little black box and he goes "I was wondering if you'd like to be my wife." And he was doing everything he could not to cry. (Big ol' Army paratrooper, not afraid to jump out of airplanes in combat and here he's about to cry-- he's so awesome!)

Of course I said yes (he proposed on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception too), that was nearly 13 years ago and we're about to have our 5th baby.

Why was he late? He had stopped at the mall during a loose diamond sale to pick out a diamond he knew I'd love, got it set into a setting he liked, had it set in a manner that he knew I wouldn't break it (I'm bad with nice jewelry). He then drove to my parents house, asked permission from my father to marry me, THEN drove down to me.

Did I feel like hell after figuring all that out? Yep. Taught me to not get so angry. But I have THE best husband in the world, the best father and I feel truly blessed.
