Reality check: Could Bush have reigned like Obama?
Forwarded to me via email - authored by Jered on a discussion board linked to the White House Facebook page:
Topic: What would you all have done if George W. Bush had done these things? If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how he inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?
If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan's holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky?
If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?
If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current on their income taxes, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the fourth of May (Cuatro de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment?
If George W. Bush had mis-spelled the word advice would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potatoe as proof of what a dunce he is?
If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?
If George W. Bush's administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?
If George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans , would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence? If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?
If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?
So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? Can't think of anything? Don't worry. He's done all this in 5 months -- so you'll have three years and seven months to come up with an answer

The Anchoress had a similar post on her blog and I'll say the same thing here that I said there.
There are two reasons that President Bush was hated and vilified so much (in my opinion).
1) He was a devout Christian and
2) He was pro-life.
Those are the two "unforgivables." That is why Bush is hated and why Obama (who is pro-abortion and not a devout Christian) is loved.
God forgive and have mercy on this country.

While Obama is clearly pro-choice he is a devout Christian. Not that this should (or does) have any bearing on anything to do with either him or Bush
[Devout Christian? You've got to be kidding.
Also, Devo, this might be your last comment here as I'm not interested in providing a forum for people intent on nitpicking but not really interested in finding common ground with the community at this blog.
This has nothing to do with not being able to stand criticism - as a professional writer, I take my knocks in plenty of places. But my blog is like my living room and the atmosphere I want here is different than other places you might be used to frequenting.]

I have yet to see anything from President Obama that resembles devoutness in Christianity.
If he was devout, then why be the first President in years to blow off National Prayer Day?
Talk is cheap. His actions speak a lot louder than his words.

That was a excellent piece. I doubt that anyone who loves the current Administration will understand it though. I am finding that more and more people simply can not see the log in their own eye but find the speck in conservative's eye. I hate all this labeling but I don't know how else to reference the groups either.
Obama is a devout Christian? No wonder they call conservatives "fanatics". Honestly, it would be funny if it was not so sad.

I agree with Sue here. Obama has yet to pick a church in the DC area, let alone attend since he came to office. Yet he still has time for golf...
Devo, one of the marks of a devout Christian is their willingness to set aside time each week for the Lord in His house of worship. You could argue that our relationship with the Lord is private, and on certain aspects it is. Just as in a marriage, there are discussions you have that only you and your spouse are witness to, there are discussions (prayer) you have with the Lord that are between no one but you and Him. However, just like a marriage, your relationship with the Lord has a public aspect to it too- people need to see affection between married people as a sign of their continuing fidelity as much as people need to see each other at church as a sign of the Lord's continuing fidelity.
This is not to say that so long as you go to church, you're a good Christian. Some spouses have the public relationship all squeaky-clean (ie, look normal), yet no longer share intimacy in private (ie: infidelity). Both situations- having a private prayer life intact without a public worship or having public worship but no prayer life- are equally bad. Faith without works (charity or worship) is dead- just ask St. Paul. You can tell a person all day about the Lord, but if you leave them hungry or cold or thirsty, you are not the Lord's friend.
Anyhow, after all that, Obama may just have a prayer life in order (I don't have access to his soul or personal life on that level), but he certainly does not have the worship aspect that the Lord specifically asks of us (10 Commandments anyone?:). Therefore, his faith, as such it is, is dead to me without his demonstrative example.
