Adam Lambert on AMA: Moms need to complain now!

adam lambert kiss.jpgI am an American Idol fan from the first season. For eight years, I have never missed an episode and have frequently recommended AI as a TV show which can become part of a family tradition, and which has a lot to offer in terms of character development and professional music training.

Season 8 boasted an unusual finalist our family - with an appreciation of Broadway and theatrical music - really appreciated: Adam Lambert. We watched him with interest, though his interpretation of Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire made us cringe. We recognized that artistically he was probably superior to Kris Allen, the winner of the competition, though we agreed that coming in second would probably give him more artistic freedom.

But Oh. My. Goodness. I have been so disappointed in Adam, who seems most intent on pushing the envelope of his gay identity. I wish I could sit down with him and say, "Adam, we don't care if you're gay. We really don't. We'd just like to hear more great vocals - more great interpretations from you. This track you've been careening down with "pushing the envelope" on your gay identity is boring. boring. boring.

And for moms like me, Sunday night at the AMA Awards may well be the end of the line. Your taking your Idol fame (2nd place) and using it as a platform to degrade women and warp innocent children for your own warped vision of "artistic freedom" is beyond the defensible.

I didn't see this on TV, but on a YouTube video. I was absolutely shocked that ABC broadcast this unprecedented S&M porn on primetime for America's children to see at 8:00 pm on Sunday night. As MTV reported:

In addition to dragging a female dancer around by the ankles, pushing a male dancer's head into his crotch and simulating oral sex, walking a pair of male hoofers around like dogs on a leash, and furiously thrusting his hips at every opportunity, Lambert took a moment mid-song to fervently make out with (an allegedly straight) male keyboard player. After the jaw-dropping performance, Lambert told CNN that the forceful smooch was "in the moment" and was not a planned part of his routine.

Appearing to preemptively strike back at anyone who took issue with the S&M-heavy imagery of the night-closing routine for its risqué nature, Lambert said those who object are engaging in "a form of discrimination and a double standard," considering that for decades, "women performers have been pushing the envelope."

The aftermath thus far:

ABC gets complaints about Lambert's performance
Nov 23, 3:23 PM (ET)

NEW YORK (AP) - ABC says more than 1,500 people have called to complain about Adam Lambert's sexually charged performance at the American Music Awards.

The network characterized the response as "moderate." Before his performance, Lambert said that he wanted to break down a double standard that existed where female performers are often sexually provocative while men don't do it that often.

There were also hostile comments online about the "American Idol" glam rocker who sang his new song "For Your Entertainment" on Sunday's show with an elaborate, S&M-themed production. Lambert fondled a dancer, led another around on a leash, had a dancer briefly stick his head in Lambert's crotch and kissed a man.

I am glad people are complaining. But only 1500???? And I find it so interesting how the Tired Old Media reports the story as though parents are the problem.

This is who you are to them, you know - unenlightened. repressive, stupid - yes even Neanderthal - sperm/egg donors whose spawn need to be rescued from you.

If you happen to be one of those unenlightened, repressive, stupid, Neanderthal parents, and if you are so moved, here is where you can file your complaints:

ABC Complaints

FCC Complaints (Maybe you oughta bookmark this one)

And Adam, if you are still listening at all to those who supported you through Idol 8 - even though we knew all along you were gay - I hope you will consider an apology and a turnaround. We are into music, not your sexuality. Think of people like Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra who used their voices to inspire, to help everyday people transcend the every day. Do you really want to be a flash-in-the-pan icon dragging human beings on leashes on national TV?

Love,

Complaining to the Networks won't do any good. The best thing that can be done is just turn them off. If they don't get any ratings the programs will loose sponsership. When I was a very young girl I enjoyed the Oscar's Emmy's Beauty Pagents. As I got older and older I realized how worthless these "Programs" are.Now that I am really older all these Reality shows are just plain "YUCK" Not worth the time to watch...I will admit I have watched "Dancing With The Stars" Donny Osmond has been on this time and has done very well and he is a CLEAN CUT MAN WITH GOOD VALUES......I hope he wins........

Oh. my. gosh. That picture...too early in the morning Barbara, lol. I stopped watching all those award shows years ago. I was tired of celebrating celebrities, you know? They get enough attention as it is, but I can appreciate why other people like to watch. I am shocked that ABC ran the program as is. That is disgusting. I think I will shoot them an email to remind them why I don't even turn their station on.

Boy- between that and "two and a half men" I'm going to shut the darn TV off all together!

Netflix anyone?

Why doesn't this surprise me.

doesn't surprise me with the numbers either. Look at the 9/12 March, and the March for Life, and any other "conservative" event and the TOM will report it as being in the hundreds. Heck, I was at the Sarah Palin book signing yesterday and *SO MANY* reports kept saying "only a few hundred" and I'm going "I got there two hours before she was supposed to arrive and there was already well over 1000, by the time she started, there were over 3000 and the final tally was estimated at over 4000.

But this.... this stuff... this is disgusting. And that "allegedly straight" keyboarder probably won't do a thing legally out of fear of being called a homophobe and possibly losing his job. But Adam Lambert doesn't get it... females have been arguing for years that the trashy way women are portrayed in dancing/music, etc isn't right. So for him to use it as an excuse for his actions just proves the point that women are sexually exploited in that arena and made to feel as if their music isn't good enough therefore the adage of "sex sells" is applied.

One word... Netflix.

Posted by: j dan | November 24, 2009 12:25 PM

Gosh, I was shocked to. And so was hubby. (I can't repeat what hubs said)
I said to hubs, "wow this is really lame. All this talent and he does this?"

Elvis, The Beatles, Madonna, Prince. It's been done.

I had to comment as a musician and singer for
over 20 years,I do have some experience in the field,
1,His voice was off key

2,He tripped and fell (Could happen to anyone, I know, but if he was more worried about singing,
that might not have happened)

3,The song, I have listened to the song online
several times,I'm sorry but if that is supposed to original,,It's been done!
and it's not very good....Sorry

Okay, now the performance,
As a parent,I don't let my kids watch anything Idol related,I have my reasons,
but I know people that do watch and did watch with their kids, they were not happy at all.
I've seen it online and I could care less about the kiss,Ive seen it before, the shock value has worn off,but the crotch grabbing, simulating oral
sex and the flipping of the bird,Enough,
I never cared for Adam Lambert, not because is gay
It's because I've yet to see him deserve the fame he has gotten so quickly,
Also while he was on Idol there was video of him at Burning Man.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-BwGjhg-J8

Art is one thing, being disrespectful is another,

He has the voice this is true, but don't fool yourself,he is not the next coming of Elvis,

I am so tired of reading other posts that say
ignore it and complaining doesn't do any good, well you would be right if everybody thought that way, this is America, if you were offended by this
don't let anyone tell you not to complain, these same people will tell you your vote doesn't count
well I think the last election proved different,

Just My Opinion

I am glad Lambert revealed his true nature to those who thought the unnatural "gender confusion" is harmless. It will continue as frequently as you and I tolerate it. The "gender challenged" are caulking this one up as a victory for their pervertedness.
