Lauren wrote what has grieving me all day:
I am so furious about the media coverage of this event. They keep coming at it from a "mental health" angle and suggest that the military didn't do enough to keep its troops free of stress.First of all, US soldiers are have a suicide and murder rate far lower than others in their age group. They are suprisingly well adjusted.
Even if that weren't the case, it is absurd to pretend that this happened because of some sort of "pre-traumatic stress disorder." Please! This happened because Mr. Hasan was carrying out his own personal Jihad. To pretend otherwise is maddening.
I want to scream everytime I see a reporter wringing their hands over the mental health of our military. Can we please focus on, oh I don't know, THE TERRORISM!?
Obama is out warning us "not to jump to conclusions." The only question that should be in anyone's mind right now is if the TERRORIST acted alone.
I agree. It is sickeningly surreal - I mean physically nauseating - to see how the media is spinning this as though the military were our enemy and this poor guy so oppressed, who could blame him?
My heart goes out to the families who must not only bear this senseless violent loss, but must also see it spun this way. How could our media behave so irrationably and terribly. Can you imagine if the killer had been a fan of Rush Limbaugh's?
What to make of a media so bent on maligning our country that they vilify FOX News and Sarah Palin and Rush and Sean and whoever else is on the White House Enemies List, but are filled with compassion for a terrorist - a Muslim extremist who deliberately took out our soldiers as they were being prepared to be sent to war?
Can you imagine any other country behaving this way - stripping the citizenry of its national pride and spirit and beating a drumbeat of shame? How insane!! And this is what many teachers are teaching our kids.
Obama says don't jump to conclusions on shooting - yes, even though the terrorist shouted "Allahu Akbar" before opening fire and in spite of Internet postings which sound rather jihadistic. But don't jump to conclusions because then Obama might be required to pay attention to something other than his healthcare monstrosity/obsession, his lavish White House spending, and his constant need for adulation.A More Likely Scenario

The shooting on Nov. 5th in Fort Hood may be indicative of similar attacks to come. The shooter carried out an attack on specifically outbound soldiers for deployment at the Soldier Readiness Center. Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, was raised as a Muslim and opposed to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The fact that he chose to kill or maim over 40 US soldiers rather than go to war against Muslim jihadists is indicative of another motive. Explaining away this massacre as a conflict of conscience seems to be an oxymoron. Looking past the incident as a singular event you'll find a very different,... I'm afraid Obama is CICINO - our Commander-in-Chief In Name Only. Rush Limbaugh has taken flak for calling him a man-child, but he is either a man-child or something even more sinister is afoot.
Disgusted and dismayed. Looking to the Lord to help us through a time of such terrible leadership and into a time when the government will do what it's supposed to do constitutionally - not provide for an every-increasing number of human needs but to defend us from our enemies.

Thank you for reposting my comment. I have been literally shaking with rage today.
I have several friends who pass through Ft. Hood, and we were waiting on pins and needles to find out if they were safe. Thankfully, everyone I know was ok.
I haven't felt this upset since 9/11. It is a huge slap in the face that they refuse to call this what it is. I am praying for all the families who lost loved ones. It breaks my heart to think of all the brave soldiers who were simply getting ready to go fight for our country. It is shameful. Our President and Media have acted shamefully in this entire matter.

After reading this UK article where it states that he was reported to the FBI six months ago for extremist remarks, I can't figure out what conclusion Obama is cautioning us from making. It seems this man was on some kind of watch list. I understand they have to be careful of allegations made inappropriately but if I think the military is guilty of anything, it's being too soft, too slow to act on someone who posed as an obvious threat. How many weapons classes exactly does a psychologist in Texas really need?
I understand the need to not jump to conclusions about American Muslims in the military. That would be like lumping the guy who killed Tiller in with Pro-Lifers. It's not the same thing. But the military didn't just turn its head away from someone who needed mental help. They turned their head away from someone who was raising red flags all over the place with regard to anti-American sentiment.
I'm purposely keeping away from the news right now in almost all forms to avoid hearing the "analysis" over this story. I just can't take it right now.
I'm not jumping to faulty conclusions, Mr. Obama. I'm just reading the facts as YOUR media states them and coming to a fact-based conclusion about Mr. Hasan's intentions and motives.

Why in the world was this man allowed to remain in the military? Why did he choose to be IN the military in the first place? Was he a plant? Why didn't he get out if he knew he would likely be deployed to fight other Muslims? So odd.

It wasn't a mental health issue. It was pure and simple evil. I am sick of so much right now. I am so incredibly mad at so many things. For example, if our trained men and women of the military were allowed to carry firearms on base, it would never have gone as far as it did.
I know someone that was there...someone near and dear to me. They were in the next building over. They worked with this evil person. They personally knew 5 of the dead and 9 of the wounded. I am thankful that they weren't directly in the line of fire.
This man had only been practicing psychiatry for less than a year. Why, at such a late age, did he have the military put him through school to become a psychiatrist? Why was he allowed to remain in the military with his outspoken views against the very agency that he worked for?
This is war - over and above war on terror. This is a spiritual war on evil. Christians (no matter what church you belong to) in this country must unite in prayer.

It annoys me immensely that the "Lame media"-I like that term!- is giving this drum beat of mental health and p-o-o-r Hasan. No one forced him to join the Army or to stay and go to medical school at taxpayer expense. It was a deliberate choice on his part. Yes the quid pro quo is SERVICE for a number of years as payback for the education but if he really wanted out he could have paid back the money. Makes me think the choice was deliberate...to be in a place and time of his choosing. After all who would suspect a doctor and a psychiatrist at that.
