George and Laura Bush visit Ft. Hood while Obama lobbies for health care

I burst into tears when I saw this [the picture is an old one, not taken at Fort Hood because there was no media there - but here is a family shot that has since surfaced] :

George W. Bush makes secret visit to mourning families at Fort Hood; Laura Bush goes too

Last night former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura made a secret visit to the devastated military families at Fort Hood.

The Bushes instructed the commander of the mourning military base that they wanted no publicity. With their Secret Service detail, Bush and his wife made the 30 mile trip unannounced from their ranch near Crawford, Texas Friday evening.

Fox News broke news of the visit this afternoon. Other sources said the former first couple spent about two hours meeting with family and soldiers, talking quietly and at times hugging them as they did in private at other times of crisis such as post-9/11.

Lord, we need better leadership!!!  If this terrorist attack on our own soil has shown us anything, it's how fragile our safety is with Obama in charge.

Americans!  It is time to wake up!  Our country is worth keeping!

Doesn't this look like a Rockwell painting?

I miss him so much ... May God bless and protect him.

What an awesome picture. I always thought we were blessed to have President Bush as our President when 9/11 happened. And he is showing his care and concern for our country and the military, yet again, by taking some of his own time to meet with them and without a bunch of publicty. What an awesome man and his wife as well.
Hugs

I have goosebumps! What an amazing thing to do - what a great picture!

Yes. Yes. And Yes.

And it does look like a Rockwell painting.

This is what Obama should have been doing! Instead, he was up on Capitol Hill getting the votes he needed to pass Healthcare, I mean a takeover of the Healthcare system. He is only at any event for himself. What a loser!

I love the Bush family. True blue, good American, solid family.

Being a military family, this whole Ft. Hood thing and how Obama has reacted (or lack thereof) has just made me totally dislike him even more. And I thought that was hard to do considering pretty much everything he does/says makes me want to retch.

May God bless our troops abundantly and to protect them. Lord knows our president won't. And Thank God for George and Laura Bush.

It sure does look like a Rockwell painting.
The WH should take a lesson in leadership!

I couldn't agree more. I am planning to send a letter to them just because I want to say "Thank you" for showing this exemplary love of our country - on behalf of the rest of us who feel it. God save America.

The picture is beautiful! When I clicked on it the title was "Bush GWw-Qatar03", so I'm thinking this photo is from a different event. It is gorgeous, though, and I believe that the sentiment of the soldiers would have been similar at Ft. Hood.

Not sure it makes a difference, but this photo is from 2003 in Qatar, not Texas. It's a great photo!

I am SO glad you posted this! It warms my heart. I missed it on FOX news. The photo truly is Rockwellian isn't it?

Thanks Barbara.

I'm guessing that the press picked out that old photo and used it since they didn't know about the visit ahead of time and needed a photo to go with it. The story and picture are still great though......I miss Bush so much! And I was actually pretty frustrated with him at the end there....but he'd be much better than what we have now!

From what I understand, no reporters or photographers were at the this Ft. Hood visit. The reason we know about it is because someone inside Ft. Hood called the news outlets to let them know it happened.

I think that's why they used an old photo to accompany the article. No media photos exist from this visit.

Yes, it does look like a Rockwell. As I was scrolling down the web/blog page, I thought it WAS a Rockwell.

I, too, was frustrated with Bush at the end, but have always been proud that he and Mrs. Bush were in the White House. They both brought so much honor and respect to the office and, therefore, our country.

You know, there is no where that it says that a former president is required to visit and give comfort to people, especially without the press there to cover and boost their egos. They were, and still are, good examples of a lady and a gentleman and seem to be servant-leaders. I've never notice any "attention grabbing" events going on with them.....unlike some presidents and first ladies that I won't call by name.....

I saw a bumper sticker while in traffic a day or so ago. It was black with simple white lettering. It read: "I MISS W."

Me, too....

God bless President and Mrs. Bush.

I miss W, too.

It sure does look like a Rockwell painting. Unlike this picture of Obama with the troops.
