How many sugar cubes do you eat? (updated)

Martha sends me so much good stuff.  This is a great visual to share with your kids. Besides obesity, sugar can lead to crazy mood swings.  It weakens your immune system.  It is really best to limit it and to bring your children up to make healthy choices.

Here is a site that reveals graphically how much sugar is in your sweets, fruits and vegetables - for all of them, go to SugarStacks.com:

There's a follow-up also.  According to SugarStacks:

In our vegetable section, we pointed out that carrots have sugar.  This prompted some angry emails, accusing us of scaring people away from eating their veggies. Here, we offer a bit of perspective, comparing the sugar you get from eating carrots vs. some popular sugary foods and drinks.

Barbara, Are there supposed to be pictures with the sugar cubes post, because I can't see any...... Just wanted to make sure you knew--maybe I"m missing the point! :) ~Becky

I, too, tried reading this in Mozilla and Explorer. There was nothing in Mozilla and empty boxes with error signs in Explorer.

Thanks for this fun thing amongst all the yick going on in the media. My mind needs a break before it explodes!!!

Hi Barbara, it's not a browser issue; it's just that the pictures aren't hosted in a place where a browser can find them. (I think the post is trying to find them on your email server.) If you upload the pictures and then embed them in the post, we'll be able to see them.

Thank you! For someone with a sugar cane allergy (and who has children with sugar allergies as well), this is a great reminder that something that may seem like a problem may actually be a blessing in disguise!

I have found that refined sugar is mildly addictive. I grew up on Kool-Aid and would get 'withdrawls' when we ran out. These would include iritibility and headaches for a couple days. That stuff is not good for you! :-)

Also, the comparison of refined sugar vs. 'natural' sugars (glucose) are almost apples and oranges (no pun intended). Naturally occuring glucose has a much more subtle effect on the body, and is processed much more efficiently.
