John Adams: Virtue and the survival of a nation

Tripp sent me this:

In 1819, John Adams wrote to Thomas Jefferson:

"Have you ever found in history, one single example of a Nation thoroughly corrupted that was afterwards restored to virtue?...

And without virtue, there can be no political liberty."

John Adams continued:

"Will you tell me how to prevent luxury from producing effeminacy, intoxication, extravagance, vice and folly?...

I believe no effort in favour of virtue is lost."

I adore John Adams! He was so passionate and outspoken about true freedom. A great man (and his wife was pretty hot stuff too! LOL!) If you haven't seen it, watching the John Adams move, produced by HBO (can be rented at any video store) is an amazing movie. Very well done, factual accurate and a great view into the founding of our country. Just a few spots that are a little dicey (HBO couldn't have gone without at least a little skin showing...ugh) but overall, a great film.
