    The Little Red Hen
Hooray for a good work ethic! The little red hen asks but receives no help in her efforts to put bread on the table. Yet all who wouldn't help would like to eat. In a refreshingly old-fashioned triumph of moral consequences, they don't get to!
  • Noisy Nora
    Noisy Nora
Poor Nora! The loveable mousette experiences all the pangs of the child-in-the- middle, caught between the demands of baby brother and bossiness of big sister. Catchy meter, playful illustrations make for a wonderfully satisfying mouse's tale. Baby-Preschool

Leesburg Courthouse Christmas ban - citizen input needed 11/30 6:30 pm

stocking coal.jpgAre you upset that Loudoun County has banned all holiday displays at the Leesburg Courthouse this year? Feeling even more betrayed because this was done less than two days before Thanksgiving so as to render the citizenry helpless to counteract this draconian ruling: no creche, no Menorah - but also no tree and no Santa.

Please know that that thee Town of Leesburg does not support this action. They apparently understand that in the United States citizens are granted freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion. However, the Courthouse stands on Loudoun County property and it is a committee created by the Board of Supervisors who has made this illegal ban.

Illegal because the law allows privately sponsored holiday displays on public property. There are legal advocacy groups which could help rectify this situation, but that would take longer than we have to overturn this in time for Christmas and Hanukkah. Is this what the committee was hoping for?

One thing is certain: the mood in this country has changed dramatically. Citizens are feeling very threatened about the continued encroachment on their rights and are willing to show up where they haven't shown up before to speak truth to power.

Board of Supervisors
Public Input Session
Monday, November 30 6:30 pm
1 Harrison Street, S.E. in Leesburg

Please come Monday night with a prepared statement or speaking off the cuff. If you prepare a statement, bring a copy in writing to leave with the Supes (and I'd like one to publish here Tuesday morning).

A friend of mine is bringing a lump of coal. You might want to bring one too.

Let's wear red!

And be sure to bring the whole family - a great civics lesson for children.

Call and email the Board of Supervisors

Write Letters to the Editors of the Loudoun Times Mirror and Leesburg Today.
