Loudoun County Board of Supervisors: Information request re: Leesburg Courthouse Christmas ban
An Open Letter to the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors
On November 25, Leesburg Today reported:
A new policy set into motion by the Facilities and Grounds Committee of the Loudoun County Courthouse now prohibits displays on the courthouse grounds. This means no more Christmas trees, nativity scenes or any other holiday displays, something that has left some local residents in despair. The Rotary Club of Leesburg has undertaken the tradition of placing a Christmas tree on the grounds of the courthouse for almost 50 years, with no obstacles up until now. The club's Phil Rusciolelli has led that effort for the past five years. But, following weeks of not receiving a response from the committee about the this year's Christmas tree placement, Rusciolelli received what likely may be the final verdict Tuesday night: all displays on the courthouse grounds, holiday related or not, are now prohibited.
Many concerned citizens plan to attend the BOS public input session Monday night. But for efficiency's sake, I'm posting this Information Request in advance so you will have time to respond before then:
Re: the "Facilities and Grounds Committee of the Loudoun County Courthouse" which set in motion a new policy:There is no information on this committee on the Board's website or anywhere else at loudoun.gov. A Google search turns up no results.
Who was on the committee?
How were they selected?
How long have they been in existence?
When did they meet and how often?
What input did they solicit concerning this matter?
What legal research did they do? Where are the minutes from the meetings?
What authority do they have to set in motion a new policy without the consent of the Board of Supervisors?
Are there other committees that set policy without Board approval?
Your timely response would be appreciated.
