Michelle Obama: yet another fashion disaster - and why you should bookmark HillBuzz

michelle veterans day.jpg

I've tried my best to avoid commenting on Michelle Obama's shockingly inappropriate wardrobe choices when representing the United States at important events, but the Veterans Day Smurfette outfit with the artillery belt making its second public appearance - this time on the outside of a coat???? - was just too much.  Doesn't this woman have any sense of respect for the dignity of this occasion?

And I hate the smirk that Our Glorious Leader displays whenever he does something honoring our country or the military.  It reeks of contempt, which is true to his words and his actions, and therefore, I guess, can't be controlled.

How can anyone call Michele a fashion icon or compare her to Jackie Kennedy?

Anyway, for those of you who are as interested as I am in this sort of thing - you might want to check out HillBuzz - and even bookmark it, as some of my readers have already done.

Remember, I linked to their beautiful tribute/apology to George and Laura Bush last week (which now has over 1000 comments by people affirming their sentiments).

HillBuzz captioned the above picture "One of these things is not like the other" and critiqued Michelle's fashion (non)sense in Why can't Jill Biden take Mrs. Utopia shopping sometime?

HillBuzz is written by a couple gay guys from Chicago who do not march in lockstep with their peers. Like Camille Paglia they think outside the narrow GLBT box and aren't afraid to criticize the Obamas.  They love Sarah Palin.  Their political commentary is decidedly conservative - take this excerpt today on the Obama/Holder decision to try the mastermind behind the 9/11 terrorist attack in a New York court rather than a military tribunal:

Dr. Utopia is the first American president to bow before the King of Saudi Arabia (Falafel the Hutt).  This decision to allow KSM a platform to spout his anti-Americanism in public, and to gain access to military and intelligence records, will prostrate US security and intelligence efforts like never before.  It appears to be Eric Holder's intention to expose every secret possible during this trial to weaken the US -- for what purpose, we can only conjecture.

This is scary, scary stuff.

Average Americans, the kind that only get their news from Anderson Cooper or Katie Couric, who might as well be watching cartoons instead, need to know and understand what is going on here.

Everyone who believes Dr. Utopia is a Manchurian candidate installed by George Soros to destroy America as we know it certainly got a lot more evidence for that argument this week.

How do you think people can spread the word about how much danger New York, and the nation, are in because of the KSM decision?

Or check out Three areas the GOP needs to focus on to take down Obama and his band of socialists in 2010

These guys are so good at what they do, I'm not sure which I like most - their political commentary or tidbits like the one below, on Michelle's bizarre appearance when Nancy Reagan payed a visit to her former residence:
michelle-obama-500x375

One of these people is dressed lovely...and the other looks like she's twelve feet tall.

Mrs. Utopia needs to learn many lessons from Nancy Reagan and all the women who've come before her in the role of FLOTUS.

Like Reagan, she should pick a signature color of her own -- or at the very least, limit herself to either a pattern, stripes, or texture at a time, and not a hodge-podge of all three.

"Scowling" is not a color, no matter how ubiquitous it is for her or how much she would like it to be.

What we THINK happens in the morning when Mrs. Utopia dresses is that she picks out one piece of "outfit", her daughters pick out one piece each (in Claire McCaskill style, they "bug her" to wear this or that), and then either an impossibly straight Secret Service agent or a randomly chosen member of the public selects the last piece of "outfit".

All of this is done in the dark, everyone blind-folded if not sedated, with the people picking items in separate wings of the building, never allowed to communicate with one another.

That's the only explanation we can think of for why the current FLOTUS perpetually wears these mixed-but-not-matched ensembles to once-in-a-lifetime occasions when we, personally, would have strived to look our very best.

Because, honestly,  YOU ARE HAVING LUNCH WITH NANCY REAGAN.  On the anniversary of her husband's death. There are just six of your predecessors in the entire world alive today, each one deserving of your respect, especially the ones in their 80s who rarely make appearances in Washington anymore.

I'm absolutely loving Hillbuzz, though surely we don't see eye to eye on every issue. That's the mark of great, honest, thoughtful commentary!

Mrs. Obama's outfit screams, "Look at me!" on an occasion when nothing could be more inappropriate. When I was 13, one of my classmates committed suicide. I went to the funeral wearing a cheery white dress with a strawberry print, something that in my mind was nice for the occasion. I grew up with very little guidance and no one had ever clued me in on funeral etiquette or a great many other things as well. Even I, a clueless 13 year old, immediately realized how inappropriately dressed I was as my mother dropped me off at the church, and I felt very embarrassed. Now a grown woman (and FLOTUS, no less)? She knows. Standing out is intentional.

The blue coat gives the impression that it wouldn't go around her middle and she couldn't button it, so she kept it together with the belt. I've noticed her outfits usually accentuate her hips, and I figured it was kind of "love what you've got" which is fine with me. I like that she seems comfortable with her shape. But I don't understand wearing things that look like maybe they wouldn't fasten, such as the blue coat. Then again, I never understood the baggy pants look of recent popularity in our culture or the sausage legging look that used to be popular a few years back. But usually people at the "upper levels of society" rise above all that and go for classic elegance...or at least they used to.

Barbara, after you posted the "conversion" of these two guys on Hillbuzz to being "pro-Bush" (and I LOVED the few comments that I read--couldn't read all of them!), I looked around a bit and read a few articles. I liked what I read. They seem to be passionate and even if I disagree with someone, I really respect those that are passionate, true, willing to speak & stand up for what they beleive in, but I do agree with a lot of what they have to say.

I did find and read the post that they have with the photo of "Mrs. Utopia" on Veteran's Day in that big turquiose coat and BIG belt with her "friend" from the Wizard of Oz (their words). It is a hilarious post and I encourage folks to look it up and read it (posted 11/11). Husband had surgery 3wks. ago and he was laughing so hard when I first started reading it that I had to pause, let him sit down and literally brace himself. We were both glued to that site for a while.

Husband really thinks that when Obama did (or didn't do) what he did after Fort Hood and the MSM reacted as usual--all for OMG, no matter what--that it caused even more people to start to realize whats going on and wise up to our government, the TOM, and the lies.

Hopefully, friends of Hillbuzz with read and start to think for themselves, too.

Thank you(!) for sharing this site. It does give one hope.

I love the First Lady, but I don't agree with everything she wears. It's time to put the belt aside, specially that one. When she want to, she can look like a million bucks, when she don't, well. But I still like her. Even I have my great, good, awful, and why the heck did I put that on days. But I still like her for having guts to take chances.

Momma, I already did! I love a lot of their posts, they do have a way to communicate that it's well stated and hilarious.

I love it when we are able to put aside the things we disagree on and focus on the things we do agree. That would have to do come next election. Putting aside political parties and focus on what's best for this country.

Great find Momma!

I sent out that post to George Bush to a bunch of people and have kept reading Hillbuzz. I really like their take on things and I LOVE how much they appreciate Sarah Palin. It's great to read common sense and have something to send to people that's not written by another Christian right-winger that people will immediately write off. Thanks for the great tip!

If you think that's bad (and it is), then you might enjoy this collection of Michelle Obama fashion faux pas, Barbara.
