November 11 Veterans Day program at Loudoun Valley High
[2010 Update: The 11th Annual Loudoun Valley High School Veterans Day program will take place Thursday night, November 11, 2010. You don't want to miss it! See this year's program]
From what I hear, the reason Loudoun County students do not have off on Veterans Day is because a decision was made that it was better for them to be in school to learn the meaning of this special day. How cool is that?
This will be our 8th Veteran's Day here, and ever since the first one, our family has looked forward to the special Veterans Day program put together by the students and teachers at Loudoun Valley High, who every year put together a brand new tribute to our Armed Forces which acknowledges LVHS alumni and veterans in our community.
The Loudoun Valley High School Veterans Clubwould like to welcome the community to our10th Annual Veterans Day Program"Brothers and Sisters in Arms"November 11, 2009 at 7 p.m. in the Loudoun Valley High School Auditorium, featuring the LVHS Staff Singers, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Sign Language Classesand more.Staff and students preparing the program wish to honor our distinguished veterans and those men and women currently serving in the military services. We would like to encourage anyone who is interested to share a picture of their loved ones who are currently serving or have served in the armed forces to be included in a slideshow presented at the program. Digital pictures need to be sent to Leslie.Bower@loudoun.k12.va.us for inclusion by Friday, October 16, 2009.
In conjunction with the Town of Purcellville, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1177, and American Legion Post 293, the Veterans Club will be collecting "Sweats for Vets". Sweat set donations may be dropped off at Loudoun Valley High School's main office before Veterans Day, November 11th. They will then be delivered to servicemen and women at Walter Reed Hospital. For more information, call Leslie Bower at 540-751-2400.
There are speakers, special music (Maddy will be singing this year) and one of my favorite moments: when Mr. Reeves' school band plays a medley of service anthems and vets in the audience stand up when the music from their branch is played. It is very inspiring and a way to say thank you.
This year, I have heard, we will be honoring Army Spec. Stephan L. Mace, who was killed in battle in Afghanistan on October 3. Stephan attended Loudoun Valley High, graduating in 2003.
I would encourage everyone in the community to come to this event. Homeschoolers, you are invited and welcome too - I know you will be blessed by what you experience and will want to make it an annual event for your family, as the Curtises have all these years.
Thank you to the students and teachers of Loudoun Valley High who put together a wonderful program each year.!
