Obama's early childhood in Indonesia
Wendy sent this - a fascinating look at the cultural forces that seem to have led to Obama's deep resentment of white people - which I first wrote about June 10 in reaction to how Obama had treated our former European allies: Does Obama Hate White People?
20, 2009 Obama's Expatriate Years
By Thomas Lifson
November 20, 2009Surprisingly little attention has been paid to the crucial years Barack Obama spent growing up in Jakarta, Indonesia from 1967 to 1971, ages 6 to 10 in his life. These formative years, in which a child first spends significant time in the wider world beyond his family environment, must have taught him many lessons about America -- some of them very unpleasant, given the particular situation of his family.
It would have been brutally difficult for any child, including young Barry Soetoro as he was then known, to be uprooted from Honolulu, where his single mother raised him with her parents' aid, and plunked down in a completely different culture. But his family's circumstances were very different from other Americans' then living as fellow expatriates in the teeming and desperately poor third-world metropolis. In this set of circumstances lies a possible explanation for Obama's animosity toward corporate America and its executives.

That picture really strikes me. Stepfather is sitting square to the camera, with plenty of room on the bench to his right, not touching anyone in his family. Mom is kind of squooshed next to him, both hands on the baby. And then there's Barry off to the side. Neither of the adults are touching him, he's just got his elbow on his mother's leg.

Well, if "wealth" was given freely to high corporate officials before his eyes as a child, which developed a jealousy and animosity then, he sure is making up for it now isn't he?

"...cultural forces that seem to have led to Obama's deep resentment of white people..."
So the statement in this clause is that Obama has a DEEP RESENTMENT of white people. I suppose this was cultivated by his white grandmother who raised him....
Sheesh, where do you people get these things?
[Umm. We got them from the facts I just presented above. Keep an open mind. That his white grandmother raised him does not by any stretch of logic mean that he can't have a deep resentment of white people. Did you read the facts I presented? If you can't subject your religious devotion to Obama to some scrutiny and be willing to change your mind when presented with facts, than you are the one with a narrow mind, my friend.
And thanks for continuing to read my blog!]

Not so sure about this one. I think the class awareness probably was more salient to him when living in Hawaii, going to an elite school on scholarship and then at Columbia, another elite school. 1) It is more obvious who is poor in Elite American schools, since it is hard for scholarship kids to cross class boundaries when they don't have the money to hang out at super expensive bars or buy the designer shoes that everyone else is wearing. 2) Unless someone is telling a child of 10 about class structure, then they aren't really going to notice. In other words, unless he had someone actively tell him that America and white people sucked--most Foriegners loved the US back then--then he isn't going to come to that conclusion by himself.
Also, it is a pet peeve of mine when people think children are "brutally" uprooted by moving. As long as the parents treat the move as an adventure and have a healthy attitude, then the child is going to have a great time.
