Oprah interviews Sarah Palin - what did you think?

oprah palin.jpg I'm just about to put dinner on the table, but am so anxious to hear what you all thought of the Oprah/Palin interview.

I thought Oprah could have been a lot friendlier - but then again, I don't watch her show. Does she always affect such a studiously unwarm approach?

Sarah was spectacular considering the lack of warmth and smiles from the hostess. I got the impression she had learned from her backstabbing by Katie Couric never to let anyone rattle her again.

Yay, Sarah!

Loved the shots of Baby Trig! And the "boring" mormality of her home life.

My favorite quote, when Oprah pressed her about her plans for 2012:

"Oprah, I've learned you don't need a title to make a difference. Any ordinary American can seize opportunities to let their voice be heard and to speak up for issues and candidates they believe in."

Tell me what you thought.

Oh, and btw, Oprah has some outtakes at her site.

Love,

I just watched a few of the outtakes...It's been awhile since I watched Oprah, but yes, I thought she used to feel more "warm".

Well, I'm no expert, and it isn't fair to judge someone on a single photo, but she doesn't look completely friendly in the photo above. I would love to hear what an expert in facial expressions would have to say about it.

I was out of town and missed it. Any chance you could post it or maybe YouTube will have it?

Found your site by accident looking for good things on Thanksgiving and wanted to say good job and keep it up- Clover,SC

I haven't watched O. in awhile but thought she was quite gracious considering where her loyalty lies (with the Obamas). I had the feeling she liked Sarah Palin more than she thought she would. I think O tends to be more hard hitting these days in general. I thought Sarah Palin was fabulous and was glad she had a platform to address some of the ill-treatment she received during the campaign.

Long time lurker: I saw seven or eight clips and thought she was so natural and comfortable. Oprah was a teech chilly but it I didn't catch an angry or aggressive vibe.

Posted by: keira | November 16, 2009 10:50 PM

I went into it expecting about what I saw. Oprah was not warm in the least. I felt like she really pressed the Levi issue..."is he invited to Thanksgiving?" much more than neccessary - is that even an issue? Do we ask other political figures about their ex-almost-inlaws? Mrs Palin did very well. I appreciated that she accepted some of the blame for the Couric interview saying essentially that she lost her cool (although she really handled that one much btter than most people would've!). I think we all know politicians who would not have taken that high road.

I thought Oprah was rather cold and unfriendly. I don't watch her anymore, but I used to. I have to say this is one of her more unfriendly interviews. To me, it was quite clear that she does NOT like Sarah Palin. (SHAME on you Oprah as this woman has done nothing to you!) As for Sarah, she was as warm and gracious as I expected her to be. How difficult it must be to react to the cold shoulder treatment with warmth and grace - she did it!

I agree with you - Sarah is learning quickly!

I saw all but the first 20 minutes of it. I watch Oprah for only 10 minutes at a time on rare occasions, but she did a pretty good job of being decent, unlike Katie Couric. I think Sarah handled herself well, but I don't think she looked as comfortable as other guests on the show do.

It was bound to be an awkward interview no matter what. Sarah handled it well and made some excellent points. I wish she had asked Oprah how she feels about our illustrious president, now!

I watched almost the entire show and Sarah did an excellent job. Oprah, on the other hand, I felt was not very friendly. I have seen her show quite often and she can be warm and friendly to many different people. Just watching the previews of her upcoming shows for the week, she was treating stars of a new movie very well. I guess that is just a testimony to the ways of the world, which is sad.

I never watch Oprah, but I found the interview on YouTube. I found her intro pretty revealing: Oprah's obviously concerned about her image because she supposedly "dissed" Palin by not inviting her on the show, and since it's obvious Sarah isn't going away any time soon, she wants to put the issue to rest.

I think Sarah has definitely matured in her skills when faced with a less-than-admiring interviewer (she was fantastic with Hannity, but you've got to handle the more hostile ones if you want to succeed in office as a conservative).

Watching OPRAH is always an education. I check to see what will be on her programs and then I DVR it so I can watch it in the evening. I Personally don't care for OPRAH but she has come up through the ranks and as a woman. . a black woman...has met many challenges. The program today with Sarah Palin was GREAT!!!!!!Sarah Palin has become such an EMPOWERED WOMAN, WITH BEAUTY AND GRACE...SHE IS CONFIDENT AND VERY ROOTED AND GROUNDED IN HER FAITH. SHE IS BLESSED WITH A GREAT FAMILY AND LITTLE TRIG IS JUST AS CUTE AS ALL GETOUT. HE WILL HAVE A GREAT FRIEND IN HIS NEPHEW TRIPP AND THEY WILL GROW TOGETHER AND NO DOUBT BE FAST FRIENDS....AS FAR AS LEVI JOHNSON GOES...HE IS SURELY MARCHING DOWN THE WRONG PATH. I PRAY HE'LL KEEP IN CLOSE TOUCH WITH HIS SON AND MAYBE SOMEDAY WILL REALIZE THAT WHAT WAS A WRONG CHOICE FOR THOSE TWO YOUNG PEOPLE TO GET PREGNANT THE BEAUTIFUL BABY THEY MADE IS SPECIAL AND HAS A SPECIAL JOB TO DO HERE ON THIS EARTH....I REALLY LOVE SARAH PALIN AND NO MATTER WHERE SHE IS PLACED BY GOD, IT WILL BE FOR THE GOOD OF OUR COUNTRY........GOD BLESS HER AND HER FAMILY AND GOD BLESS AMERICA.......

Oprah is all about "Oprah". Glad Sarah Palin had the opportunity to speak to "O"'s audience.

Watched the show late last night (love DVR) and at first was annoyed by Oprah's seemingly cold attitude, but then realized I would rather her act the way she really feels then go over board and act is if she wanted her to be her best friend.
Sarah Palin did an incredible job answering questions and sticking to her guns on how much detail she wanted to give on the questions asked.
I saw the commercial for her interview with Barbara Walters that is to be on this morning. Although, I would like to see Sarah interviewed again, I don't want to spend the days watching tv. It also made me wonder why Barbara didn't choose to air the interview as a "Barbara Walters Special" in the evening when more people would likely see it. Oh that's right, she is not Angelina Jolie, Nancy Pelosi or some other "Hollywood Political Figure".

I too agree that Oprah was cold. She's always so open and friendly with all the Hollywood stars. It made my stomach turn knowing Oprah is a huge Obama fan. I love Sarah and she did do a good job, but at times I thought she was nervous. Why would anyone want to put themselves through that with Oprah? Already this morning on the Today show they made a crack that Sarah said she was "praying for Levi". I'm praying for Sarah that God will protect her from the onslaught of the liberal media. Hope she's ready for it ~ again.

I wrote out a long answer and as I was finishing up I realized something. No one should have expected much from this interview. Palin and Oprah are not friends. Oprah was cold and Palin gave answers that seemed rehearsed. She is not going to break down - of all places - on the Oprah show and share her heart. Had I really thought about it then I would have not given Oprah my ratings and just waited for my book to get here! The one thing I did see is that Palin is a lady at all times. I liked that.

I am wondering Mrs. Curtis, have you seen the movie "Media Malpractice" by John Ziegler? I have considered seeing it but really don't know if I want to spend my money on it. I would like to know more about Palin because I really do think she is going to run again and I want to try to figure out if she is the one I would like in office. If anyone can suggest some real books on Palin - not just fluff - then I would like to know. Several times I have visited Amazon but the reviews are either "she is a idiot" or "she is going to save us". I want to know more about her policies, her principles, & what she stands for.

Any advice?

Ouida Gabriel

i enjoyed it. i think oprah was a bit cold. and sarah a bit, too. but what can you expect? oprah doesn't like her - refused her on her show during the campaign but needs the ratings. i'm sure there's no love lost on palin's side - but she wants the platform. o pushed the levi issue a bit too hard. and i think she tried to corner palin on the abortion issue (unsuccessfully, imo). it was good and i think it was "fair."

Posted by: christinec | November 17, 2009 11:35 AM

I second Ouida Gabriel's question - if you, Barbara, or anyone else know of any straightforward sources of information about her I would be interested in that. As a mom of littles, I don't have tons of time to devote to the research and as a sleep-deprived mom of littles, I worry about being discerning. I don't want to be easily misled during what feels like a weak season.

I also feel a real need to pray for Sarah Palin. It seems she has a lot to offer our country and I can't imagine the beating she is going to take from the left. I pray that she and her family can withstand what is coming by God's grace.

I watched yesterday and feel pretty much the way everyone else does. Sarah was great, a little reserved, but who could blame her? Oprah was distant, reserved as well and I didn't like how she went after her on certain questions. But I'd like to think that Oprah came away respecting Sarah and possible even liking her ;-)

My big question is: Who was in the audience and where was the love for Sarah? I haven't watched Oprah in years, but when I did it seemed like the audience always loved the guest that was on. There wasn't any response from them, for the most part, except when they showed pics of her son.

It felt as if Sarah was out there on her own and I was impressed with how she handled herself. She came off looking great.

I Think Oprah is just trying to change the way people view sara palin because she will be the front runner against obama in 2012

Posted by: john | November 17, 2009 1:38 PM

I just watched the interview and I'm still disgusted with the question and excuses Oprah gave for asking about a woman being able to do the 'job' if she has family responsibilities. I've spent 35 years running a business and raising a family with my partner/husband and I RESENT the implication that women have to prove to the world (an other women) that we can do the job along side our God given reproductive responsibilities. When will we be over this sexist gender bias? Our country is the loser if our leadership is limited to men and barren and post menopausal women.

i think Oprah has become quite clever in covering her obvious likes and dislikes for certain people, concerning who she'll interview...

she only invited Mrs. Palin because of all the controversy from lack of an invitation, it's no news she has no love loss for Sarah.

Shelly...to answer your question, the audience had no reactions to Sarah because they were all Oprah fans and more than likely felt the same as all the other fans that supposedly wrote the show, voicing their disapproval of the Sarah Palin interview.

and PLEASE...would everyone "stop" feeding Oprah's already burgeoning ego by telling her how Great she is. said, done, move on already.

my apologies to "any" of you that i may have offended, but i obviously needed to vent, lol
