Switching gears for Thanksgiving week

thanksgiving card 2009.jpg Not much time for blogging here, but grabbing a few moments while my family is sleeping in.

Sophia came home from college last night, Maddy is cantoring/singing for a wedding today. Samantha and Kip and the grandchildren are coming tomorrow. On Monday my son Zach will be received into the Catholic Church at the 9AM Mass, then Sophia and I are spending the rest of the day together - going to the Spy Museum or the Newseum.

Then shopping for Thanksgiving, cooking. And Thanksgiving and our famous family photo which I take using a tripod and camera each year.

And Friday the whole family will go to the Smithsonian to visit the Museum of American History. We are so blessed to live here, but this will be a real celebration because since we moved here Tripp has been unable to go sightseeing because of his knee - which the replacement surgery in September 2008 was supposed to fix, but which turned into nine months of fighting infection and more surgeries.

Now he's better and we have a lot to be thankful for. And driving a schoolbus means he's free on all the days the kids are off school. So this trip Friday will be the first of many, many as we celebrate living near Washington DC. I am so grateful to God that I have lived here and in San Francisco/Marin. So much to see and do and share with the children. And we are blessed to live in the country, but just an hour away from so much history and enrichment.

Btw, I mentioned the great fun our family is having with Band Hero. It has gotten even better. The guitar, drums and mike bundle works with other games too. My son Matt recommended Rock Band 2
and The Beatles. They are actually more interesting. So now we have Tripp, Matt, Zach, Sophia, Maddy, Jonny, Daniel and Justin participating. And it should be even more fun as the crowd swells tomorrow. If you are planning to get a family gift for Christmas, I would recommend this as it has led to hours of fun together.

I will be reposting Thanksgiving stuff and a couple more giveaways, but cannot deal with politics right now. I am so sick to think that our elected officials are at the point that they will commit political suicide in order to ram this government-controlled health care down our throats. The Senate is voting tonight. If you are up to it, please call your Senators. And check out Heritage.org for information. And if you have any energy left for politics right now, check the News & Analysis links on my right sidebar.

For now - other than finishing Going Rogue and Rules for Radicals - I'm concentrating on being a mom. Also reading Cold Sassy Tree as an antidote to modern cynicism. (There are three copies at Paperback Swap)

What's going on in your life? Is your focus changing? If so, go with it for a while. You can always trust the Holy Spirit. We are so blessed.

Love,

So much happening. Just found out my neighbor was fired. Horrible. Just found out that my sister-in-law is being offered a MUCH needed job.Great news!
Getting ready for Thanksgiving. Cleaning, cooking decorating! Such fun. Our son will be coming home from college (from DC :) Monday.

Our daughter is taking on her teacher,a very liberal Brown University graduate and the liberal thinking classmates in her international studies class. Everyday we go over the crazy class discussions and come up with a strategy to confront the craziness. So I bought Glenn Beck book Arguing with Idiots. She is learning so much and we are bonding at the same time.

I am reading lots of Thomas Dubay. Father Dubay is the most solid spiritual Catholic writer there is. Check him out.

Thankful for so much. Praying for the demise of this healthcare bill. But our Hope is in the Lord always! Thanks so much for sharing in your blog and all your hard work you do. Peace, Jane

I thought about you on Saturday...we were in Herndon for football playoffs (my husband Todd coaches a high school team).

Hope you are enjoying your time with family!

Barabara, you are so blessed to live near such a wonderful city. My hubby and I just spent the last 5 days in DC to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We've really enjoyed the Smithsonian and a few other museums, including the Spy Museum. It was really neat! Have fun with your family...I think if we are able to bring our children, they would love the Natural History museum.
