Leesburg Courthouse Nativity Scene - Loudoun children love it

IMG_6167-1.JPG

For those confused about the final outcome, after the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors had a second round at the holiday display debacle, they came up with a policy which basically gives any group the right to put up anything on the Courthouse lawn. I guess some atheists and Masters of Crude are thrilled with the outcome.

Perhaps the Supes will eventually realize it is their responsibility to create guidelines concerning obscene and offensive material - freedom of speech was never intended to protect obscenity.

But in the meantime, that is a price worth paying to continue to display the traditional symbols most Americans still hold dear.

The Nativity was up in time for the Leesburg Christmas Parade. As I waited on the corner of King and Market, I enjoyed seeing many children interacting with the Nativity and talking with their parents. As a Montessori teacher, I know that for children under six, early concrete memories provide a strong foundation for future ideas.

We are truly blessed that the Welshes have put up the Nativity for 20 years. My guess is that there are parents today who take their children to see the same beloved figures that meant so much to them as children.

We are told that Christ has established his Church and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it...the footnote that was apparently omitted in all translations is that "yes, but a few backsides may be slapped by those gates and a few fingers will get pinched in its hinges..."

All that to say, keeping in mind this as well as your "Letter from Jesus" post last week, the victory is won, although (painful, frustrating, frightening) battles remain.

Which lends perspective to Christ's words, "...in the world you shall have tribulation but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." It's that "but be of good cheer" part that is comforting -- it means Jesus knows it will appear as the opposite, that those nasty gates of Hell are prevailing.

Anyway. Stand firm in your witness to Truth, Barbara. You are an encouragement to this mommy.

"Perhaps the Supes will eventually realize it is their responsibility to create guidelines concerning obscene and offensive material"

I am wondering if you find this proposed statement offensive and therefore think it should not be allowed? What is your opinion?

"At This Season of the Winter Solstice, May Reason Prevail. There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural World. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."

[Devo Baby, I am on record publicly - in print and on TV - as saying that any religion that wants to be represented should be represented, including the religion of atheism, because atheism is a religion my friend. I have never said that Christianity should be the only religion represented. Just that we don't have any obligation to tolerate obscene material.

Also, in the spirit of goodwill to all, I can't tell you how happy it makes me to know that you are a regular reader!]
