The Screwtape Letters - Washington DC must-see

scewtape letters.jpgSamantha and Kip gave us an early Christmas gift: a pair of tickets to see The Screwtape Letters at the Shakespeare Theater Company in Washington, DC.

It was absolutely brilliant and mesmerizing - with an excellent adaptation from C. S. Lewis, great production values (set, costumes, sound), and phenomenol acting.

The intended run sold out rather quickly, but fortunately they have added performances and you may still buy tickets for January 6-10. This is an important work for Christians to see - and would make a strong family memory for your kids who are old enough. I saw many homeschool families at the 12/18 performance. And they have group discounts available.

To purchase tickets or for more information, see the Shakespeare Theater Company.

We saw this last night. My two oldest had already read the book and some of it went over my 11 y.o.'s head. The acting was well done as was the set. It stays fairly true to the book with some minor changes. The "toast" was moderated somewhat from the book version which was somewhat ironic given Lewis' repeated theme against religious moderation but it is indeed a worthy book and play. Really about the only Lewis book I really liked - even though I don't agree with everything he says. Favorite parts - the bit about "religious pride" and "gluttony". Lots of fun.

Might want to spell "Screwtape" correctly...

[Thanks - always appreciate people who are willing to help in this way.]

And for those who can't see it, may I recommend Focus on the Family's Radio Theater version which has recently come out? I got it for the men in my family for Christmas.
