Anyone from Massachusetts voted yet?
I hear voters are flocking to the polls in spite of bad weather.
. . . also that Democrats trying to bus voters in to vote for Coakley are being waved away by Democrats who say No, we're voting for Brown!
From Politico: Finger-pointing begins for Democratic insiders. You guessed it: this is all Martha Coakley's fault. Even though two months ago Virginia and new Jersey went conservative red.
Now the administration and their state media are scrambling to throw old Martha under the bus.
They really don't get it. The nation has turned against Obama/Pelosi/Reid's takeover of our economy while political hypocrites live high on the hog. Their days are all numbered, one election at a time.
Anyway, I'm hoping to get a report from the ground in Massachusetts - anyone?

I voted for Brown this morning about 10 AM. My neighborhood polling place is in a working class Catholic Democrat neighborhood. It was snowing, but not it wasn't terribly cold. When I arrived I saw 1 Coakley sign, 0 Brown signs and no one outside to influence voters either way. Inside, my husband noticed that there was twice the security (uniformed police officers) and twice the usual poll volunteers -- but only 3 or 4 voters. I've heard from a friend in another neighborhood that at 7 AM it was very crowded. So I don't know. Go Brown!

Maybe I'm dumb (probably). How can "Catholics" be democrats ? This must be Pelosi style democrats that Katherine speaks of.

I live south of Boston and the amount of homemade signs for Brown is incredible. I have never had my vote count! I am so excited as are alot of people here. Quite a few friends who are "dyed in the wool" democrats plan/have voted for Brown.
My polling place was busy with many signs being held for Brown - only 2 lonely faces holding Coakley signs.

I'm not in MA, but an American. All of us are paying close attention to this race. Thank you, Katharine for the report and for voting for Scott Brown!
Barbara, you are so right. Washington just doesn't want to accept the fact that when we know our freedoms are being stomped on, we take action!

Cynthia....you're not dumb, but I am thinking those Democrats who call themselves "Catholic" are! I live in one of those old neighborhoods too....so depressing to see these wise older people voting for the death party. Really, they have been through so much in their life. I guess old habits do die hard. I really think if they knew the truth they would not vote the way they do. I do not think the church helps us out any in our cause, however, I do see small improvements, in pocket areas of the country. Especially those areas with good solid Bishops.

Thank the Lord for some solid Bishops, Carolyn. Thank you to you too.
We are certainly praying here, and have been for weeks for The Brown Win.
Love to all,
Keep praying. Thanks Barbara, as always.

I live just West of Boston. Just got back from voting. The polls were very quiet when I was there but one of the women staffing them told me that it was "crazy" this morning. I live in one of the very, very few towns in MA with a Republican majority so I'm hoping everyone was voting for Brown!

Explaining the Catholic Democrat thing: I am not a native Boston resident -- I'm a Red State Girl. So my interpretation might be skewed.
From what I can understand, the reason that working class families in Boston and MA are Catholic AND Democrat goes back several generations. These are mostly Irish and Italian immigrants, who, arriving poor and helpless and uneducated (and often oppressed) were the philosophical, theological and economical contrast to those white rich Protestants who ran the city. It was through the work of the Democratic party (way, way back in the day) that created child labor laws, better work enviroments, minimum wage, most social issues, etc, (in those times the current issue of abortion wasn't even on the table). Arguably, this might have been the strategy that the Democrats were counting on to garner votes and keep their guys in office, like Kennedy. We all know that people are corrupt ( not just Democrats) and subsequently over the years, many corrupt leaders have held this state and city. A 2nd or 3rd generation Irish man in Boston would no more vote Republican than he would chop off his arm. Until yesterday. But as we can see from yesterday's election (WOO HOO) that times are changing.
I hope this helps clarify things. This is a cultural issue, not necessarily a ideological one.
[Great analysis, Katharine - thanks.}
