Loudoun: debate judges needed

Something I enjoy participating in - and you may too:

Dear Friends and Family,

Tournament season will officially kick off this week in Sterling with Region IV coming together to compete in various speech and debate events. Our club here in Purcellville is hosting this event with approximately 170 competitors from as far away as Maryland joining us. It takes an enormous undertaking to pull off these tournaments. We are in the final stages of preparing and our family is personally calling on you to come and support these wonderful kids that have worked so hard since last fall, and some since last summer!!

We need just an hour of your time to judge one speech or an hour and a half to judge a debate round. I have seen a lot of speeches over the past few months and I can assure you that you will thoroughly enjoy listening and watching a speech or two. Everything from a duo interp of "Hank the Cowdog" to Apologetics explaining the meaning and significance of the infinite nature of God to "Juney B. Jones is a Barber Shop Guy!" to an excerpt from "Les Miserable" and much more!

Debate teams have also been working equally as hard and are prepared to persuade! This years Team Policy Resolution is- Resolved: That the United States Federal Government should significantly reform its environmental policy. You'll hear much about solar power and being less dependent on foreign oil to reducing emissions and everything in between. Lincoln Douglas debaters have been resolved: That competition is superior to cooperation as a means of achieving excellence. Doesn't that just pique your curiosity at what a bunch of high school kids have to say regarding these topics? I'll just say that having been apart of this club for the past three years, I always walk away very encouraged that our young people are amazing thinkers that can articulate their thoughts with such poise, completeness, and conviction.

Judging is easy peazy lemon squeezy!! You are given ample instructions both verbally and on paper! I promise that you can't screw this up! As I reflect on my first time judging, I was whisked away at a regional tournament judging Lincoln Douglas! I had no idea what Lincoln Douglas even meant! But, by the time the round was over, I was able to sigh, and begin writing my jr. judge thoughts down on paper! I survived and the kids were so gracious and patient with me.

Please take a look at the site below to see if there's time that you might be free to come and judge and show your community support! You won't be disappointed and the kids will be encouraged with your support. Feel free to pass this email onto your friends that you think would also like to join in on the fun!

Many thanks to so many of you that have shown your support in the past!
