Maddy Sings for Haiti

Maddy Curtis shares songs and stories to benefit Haitian relief efforts

Sixteen-year-old Maddy Curtis, a junior at LVHS and a Bluemont resident will sing to raise funds for Haiti in its time of need.  Donations will be accepted for World Vision International's Haitian relief effort. A World Vision staffer who recently returned from Haiti will share her first-hand experiences with everyone during the performance.

Maddy is the ninth of twelve children, four of whom have special needs. This one-time benefit event will feature Maddy Curtis singing the music of Cole Porter, Gershwin, Hammerstein, Hoagy Carmichael, and Sting. She'll perform songs made famous by Ella Fitzgerald, Doris Day, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, and Kristin Chenoweth. Maddy will also field questions from the audience and onstage host, Tom Sweitzer.

Living in one of the richest counties in the nation makes it difficult to fathom what's happening 1,250 miles away in Haiti, the Western Hemisphere's poorest country, where most citizens live on $2.00 a day. How much more unimaginable the picture becomes when an earthquake leaves upwards of 150,000 dead and 600,000 homeless.

"What can we do to help?" The answer is, "Whatever you can."

Maddy can sing for Haiti. What can you do? Come join us at Franklin Park Performing Arts Center. For though we may not be personally affected by this natural disaster or Haiti's poverty and despair, we can come together for this Do What You CAN Concert to hear one of Loudoun's brightest talents sing her heart out for Haiti.

Set your own ticket price and keep Haiti's desperate need in your thoughts. All proceeds go to World Vision Haitian relief efforts. Reserve seats by calling  the Franklin Park Arts Center at 540-338-7973, guests are asked to please arrive by 7:45.

My 9 year old daughter Maddie now checks your blog each day and told me how much she wishes we lived in VA. She would love to hear Maddy sing! I love how your Maddy uses her gifts for God and others. Many blessings to you all.

If only I didn't live so many hundreds of miles away... What a wonderful thing for your family to volunteer to do. May God bless your efforts!

So proud of Maddie for doing this. I pray that many funds are raised. I also pray that the US gets their act together to put up a decent hospital to help out.

How generous of your family and Maddie for sharing your time and talent for a great cause. I just read aa small AP article in our local paper this morning about the hundreds of new orphans...it just broke my heart. Julie

Hi, I just called and was told that another show might be added. I really hope so. My family and I SO want to attend this. My husband is from Haiti and we still have family there that we are so worried about. This is a great thing!!!
