Lose the Training Wheels workshop - Fairfax 3/29-4/2

The LOSE THE TRAINING WHEELS CAMP is an opportunity for children with disabilities to develop the skills and confidence they need to ride a two-wheel bike for the first time. We use specially adapted bikes which allow children to progressively build the coordination needed to ride independently. A trained instructor starts the child on a bike with wide rollers to help balancing and as they gain proficiency, they move to more challenging models.

By the end of the week, most bikers are riding a standard bicycle! Volunteers also jog alongside each bicycle, cheering and supporting the rider throughout the week!

Camp Information: This week long instructional class format will provide children with disabilities between the ages of 8 and 18 years the unique opportunity to:

*          Learn how to ride bikes without the use of standard training wheels by means of specialized equipment and teaching methods.

*          Enhance self confidence and skill levels as they transition from Level I through Level VIII adapted wheel types.

*          General information about LOSE THE TRAINING WHEELS program can be found at http://www.losethetrainingwheels.org/

We've participated in this program and I heartily give it a thumbs up! Not only a great opportunity for the youth learning to ride, but heartwarming for the families.

Thanks Barbara! I've been meaning to find out more about this for a while. My 8 year old Kevin would benefit from this!! I've sent an inquiry to learn more about the camp here in Atlanta this summer. --Sara
