Conservatives cowering in the closet - sheeesh!

cowards.jpgFrom today's email. Read it and weep. Or laugh. Or something.

Hello,
My name is Xxxxx Xxxxxx and I have written a new book about homepreschooling titled XXXXXXX.

I would love to be considered for your blog roll!

Thanks so much for all you do,

Xxxxx Xxxxxx www.XxxxxXxxxxx.wordpress.com

First I note that a competitor is asking me to list her site. But I'm okay with that. I check her site and notice I'm not listed on her blogroll:

Thanks Xxxxxx -

I include people on my blogroll if I am included on theirs.

Will you put me on yours?

barbara -

She replies:

Barbara, That sounds fair...I should have thought of that before. Unfortunately, I think I'll have to decline. I decided when I started my blog to avoid linking to sites that have political content (I personally agree with you, BTW--saw you on Glenn Beck--you did a great job!) Sorry to have disturbed you.

Thanks anyway & blessings,
Xxxxxx

Unbelievable.

ya gotta admit, that's pretty ironic - you found me on Glenn Beck but won't have a public association with me because I'm political???

God has not made us to have a spirit of fear, dear. The more people bow to liberal bias, the harder it is for those of us who do take a public stand.

So, Xxxxxx, if they came to take away people like me I can only suppose you'd turn your head.

The truth is more important than book sales. God opens doors when others close them.

so disappointed to meet someone who thinks like this.

Barbara, I have to admit that I'm pretty disappointed in this post. I doubt the person who sent you that message expected to be publicly chastised on your site, name redaction aside. I understand publishing comments as posts when they are hostile or inappropriate, but it sounds like this lady was just trying to advertise her homeschooling blog . . . a worthwhile endeavor, which is certainly undeserving of this type of hostile reaction.

Not everyone chooses to be active in the political arena. You can disagree with that stance, of course, but that doesn't mean you should treat the person who holds it with anything less than respect. To make the stretch from a person not wanting political links on her blog to "turning her head" when "they come to take you away" is an unfair leap. In fact, it reminds me of the type of ridiculous leap, completely unfounded in reason, that a liberal would make!

I enjoy your blog for both the parenting and the political content, but I have to say that disappointed in this one.

Right on, Barbara!

One of the best things about homeschooling is raising kids who are not afraid to tell things like they are.

We talk current events constantly--at the dinner table, in the car, while listening to the radio. The kids understand politics and how God should factor into the equation far better than most adults.

But I also write a syndicated column in a bunch of local papers, and it's hard trying to present the conservative point of view in a way that makes it very attractive. Of course I think it's attractive, but when you've been raised with liberal bias, it's hard to accept it. The most common response I get from readers, though, is not that I'm conservative (because I never say that I am) but simply that what I'm writing is common sense.

Perhaps if more of us spoke up and said what was blatantly obvious, instead of cowering, we'd actually get somewhere with reclaiming the culture!

Becky -

I actually think redacting her name was very respectful.

I stand by what I said. I think everyone should have the courage of their convictions. Period.

Barbara-

You mention her first name in the last section of your post. A quick Google search of her book topic and the first name and her identity can be figured out.

Not only should we have the courage of our convictions, but we should also refrain from hiding our friends and allies if we think we might be ashamed of them at some point.

Perhaps it takes maturity to say to the world, "Love me, love my friends," and believe that we can survive if strangers reject us because of who we are willing to associate with.

Sorry - I didn't catch that and I had the responsibility to.

I fixed it - and thans for letting me know, michelle

Oh, Barbara, my feelings would have been hurt too, if someone did that to me. It's like being asked to use your "stuff", but you are not a allowed to play. I'm sorry that happened to you.

I don't agree with all of your opinions, but I enjoy reading them, and they are often more valuable when they are not in line with my thinking as it stimulates thought. I don't have a blog, but if I did, I'd have no problem linking you.

Take care.

Barbara, I cannot agree with you more. I live by the "question with boldness, speak without fear" motto, and I am DAILY frustrated with friends whom I KNOW hold to conservative values, but who are afraid not only to speak out about them, but to even speak a word of support to me in public forum. I always say, we're doing all the work for them--because if this country has a chance for survival as a free country, it's going to take all conservative voices speaking up boldly. So frustrating that so many are afraid to speak up, when their very freedom is at stake.

Well, I link to you for the reason that you do speak your mind on many matters especially politics, because you can express many of my thoughts better than I can! =)

I'm with gracee! I link to you quite a bit on my FB. Not just the political stories but also on matters of faith and homeschooling.
