Movie ticket prices going up 3/26

Save your money - join Netflix! Our family is on the no frills 2/month plan. But it stills saves us money and opens up the cultural floodgates for movies we could never find at Blockbuster or Redbox.

If you've ever considered joining Netflix, maybe this would be a good time. By joining here, you support MommyLife - and can get a free trial.

My daughter gave me a 3 month membership to Netflix in October and we continued it when it ran out. We get an unlimited number, one at a time, for $9 something a month. This is perfect for us as our schedule is always changing. Sometimes we watch several a week and other times a week or so goes by without watching one. But we always have that ace in the hole, a good DVD to watch, when there is time and no fines hanging over our heads.I read the reviews of bloggers I trust, am a history buff and am working my way through Shakespeare's 30 plus plays - so Netflix is perfect. So far there's only been two movies they haven't had - one is Into the Great Silence.

Barbara,

I'm curious what your thoughts are on the Netflix catalog, particularly some of the emphasis on gay-themed films that are featured prominently in many of the Netflix client applications, as well as on the website, even in unexpected places like the Faith and Spirituality genre.

While I have no objection to Netflix catering their content to diverse customer populations, would be nice if I didn't have to be concerned with content that I would not wish to have my children exposed to showing up unexpectedly.

Seems to me that you used to be able to choose which genres to view, but perhaps I'm misremembering, or maybe that was an option on one of the Netflix client apps I used to use. Either way, I'd love to be able to turn off certain genres that I'm not interested in, rather than having them shoved in my face.

If you have suggestions for making Netflix more family-friendly, they would be welcome.

Andrew, I wasn't aware of this problem - I guess because I don't really browse at Netflix. Sounds like it's a lot like walking through the mall and being assaulted by Victoria's Secret. Or checking out at the grocery store or 7-11 and being confronted with family-unfriendly magazine fare. Our children are like fish swimming in polluted waters.

Maybe you could write to Netflix to express your concerns? If you do, I'd be interested in hearing their reply.
