Urgent: Michael Pearl on Early Show tomorrow - contact CBS now!
From Michael Pearl's blog (which I don't read, so thank to the person who tipped me off):MICHAEL PEARL ON CBS EARLY SHOW
This Thursday March 18, 2010, Michael Pearl will be interviewed live on CBS's The Early Show and given the chance to answer critics.
The Show airs from 7:00 - 8:00 am EST and the interview will be at approximately 7:30 am. It is requested that the interview be covered in prayer:
"Please pray for Michael as he prays and prepares for this interview that God will give him clarity of mind and spirit to answer wisely all the questions that are put to him. Also pray that the report and the interviewer will be honest and fair. Inform your family, friends, and fellow believers and encourage them to pray also. Thank you in advance for your diligence in prayer and support.
Your fellow servants in the Lord Jesus Christ,
The NGJ Staff."I can tell you, I'm praying that the report will be honest and fair.
Concerned Christian parents need to make their voices heard so that the American public is not left with the impression that the Pearls' parenting program is representative of the Christian or the Christian homeschooling community.
Please contact CBS - now, as the show is less than 24 hours away. Let them know - in a non adversarial way - not only that the Pearls do not represent your views on raising children, but that we would be grateful to see some mainstream Christian parenting educators/family and childhood advocates added to the mix.
Continue to pray that Michael Pearl's radical and arrogant spirit - which caused him to respond to the death of Lydia Schatz with Michael Pearl laughs at his critics - be broken so that he might acknowledge how his teaching of complete domination/submission between parent/child are wrong.
Pray that he might understand that our relationship with our children should reflect God's love, patience and mercy towards us.

Thanks for the heads up, Momma C! I just emailed CBS. Hopefully they are inundated with emails!

I think it would be great to have Dr. Sears on to counter.

Thanks Barbara - I e-mailed and asked that they include Dr. Sears as well in the interview. I'll definitely watch tomorrow morning.

Thank you for posting this. I have it marked on the DVR!
I agree, it would be interesting to see DR. Sears on the show too. I followed his advice until my second child approached a year old. I then used portions from both Dr. Sears and Mr. Pearl. Both of them have good points when used in a Christian way.

Barbara -
It looks like CBS has postponed this interview one day. According to the No Greater Joy Facebook page, the interview will now be on Friday, March 19 between 7 & 8 AM, EST.
I hope that CBS is making an effort to get other, more credible viewpoints on raising children, such as Dr. Sears.

Barbara, CBS canceled on Michael Pearl and you declined an interview about the controversy on a Christian station. I've also been told that you are censoring posts in defense of the Pearls. If you're right then you shouldn't need to turn down discussions and censor posts.
[Will, It is my choice to turn down interviews as I see fit. I still have five children under 17 at home and four of them have Down syndrome. I am a writer first and I speak when it fits in my schedule. I have a large readership and still respond personally to my emails. Right now I have a book offer pending, but can't find time to respond. It's entirely reasonable that I would not take time for a radio interview about something that is a small part of everything on my radar right now.
There are over 6000 posts at MommyLife. The Pearls are not the only subject I write on and I've said just about all I care to say about them.
I have not censored any posts other than ones that cut and pasted stuff from other sites. I am also, frankly, tired of the Pearls' defenders as they seem unwilling to listen to evidence others have presented - straight from the Pearls' site - that say you should "spank" a child until they can't breathe, can't talk, or stop crying.
I find it rather strange that you come barging in here to accuse me of declining an interview as if there is anything wrong in that.
Believe me, I did not single-handedly get Michael Pearl cancelled - although I thank you for your confidence in my powers of persuasion. There is a group of parenting experts/child advocates - including Christian medical professionals, authors and resource people who do not have blogs but who also are concerned with rigid formulaic Christian parenting programs which tend to gather large groups of "true believer" types. We became acquainted during the Ezzo wars back in the 90's. As far as we're concerned, the Pearls make the Ezzos look like a walk in the park,
I find your controlling attitude rather strange. I would never think of demanding that someone do an interview because they wrote on a topic. Perhaps another symptom of the Pearl mindset is that the uber-control orientation towards children creeps out towards adults too.
