Obama Nuclear Summit - The Wizard of Oz? The Emperor's New Clothes? Or a Whole Lotta Nothin' Goin' On?
The point is that there was simply no point.
For two days they held DC under siege - disrupting lives, work, play, tourism - so these fancy schmancy "world leaders" could act as backdrop for yet another Obamapalooza aimed at making him seem important and meaningful.
Folks, let me tell you - in case you haven't had the time or the inclination to delve into this very Important-Sounding event - that it has been a really big and expensive show that has accomplished absolutely nothing at all. Except for a few more awkward moments - captured for posterity and global entertainment - as Obama bows, clasps to his breast, or points a nagging finger at other world leaders.
Seriously. Read this write-up and tell me if this isn't like your family sitting down for a few hours to agree that Aunt Alice needs to stop drinking so much, then patting each other on the back for doing something.
Obama heralds nuke talk By: Julie Mason Examiner White House Correspondent April 14, 2010President Obama used the final hours of his Nuclear Security Summit to drum up international support for sanctions against Iran, saying "words have to mean something."
"There have to be some consequences," Obama said at a news conference concluding the two-day event.
The White House was touting the summit as a major success, but like most gatherings of dozens of world leaders, the event produced more general consensus than specific action -- beyond an agreement to meet again in 2012.
"We have seized the opportunity," Obama said. "The American people will be safer and the world more secure."
The leaders produced a final communique affirming that nuclear material should be kept from terrorists, that they should work together to safeguard such material, and that the United Nations has a central role to play in overseeing nuclear weapons safety, among other points.
Summit a dud in foreign press
President Obama's Nuclear Security Summit brought together leaders of 46 other countries for an unprecedented international conference on fissile material.
It's a major story for the White House -- but how is it playing outside the United States?

The same old ridiculous strutting on the part of our Narcisscist-in-Chief - this time with the interesting twist that he is using a favorite phrase of Rush Limbaugh: Words Mean Things. And the title of a conservative classic: Ideas Have Consequences
In classic Double-Speak - the propaganda technique named by George Orwell in 1984 - Obama says
"We have seized the opportunity, the American people will be safer and the world more secure."
Oh, really? And does he have a famous bridge to sell us too?
The point is that absolutely nothing of any significance happened at this so-called Summit.
The press was excluded from covering events - a first, and as Dana Millbank points out in the Washington Post, a rather poor testimony for other countries to the US supposed freedom of press:
Obama's disregard for media reaches new heights at nuclear summit By Dana Milbank Wednesday, April 14, 2010; A02World leaders arriving in Washington for President Obama's Nuclear Security Summit must have felt for a moment that they had instead been transported to Soviet-era Moscow.
They entered a capital that had become a military encampment, with camo-wearing military police in Humvees and enough Army vehicles to make it look like a May Day parade on New York Avenue, where a bicyclist was killed Monday by a National Guard truck.
In the middle of it all was Obama -- occupant of an office once informally known as "leader of the free world" -- putting on a clinic for some of the world's greatest dictators in how to circumvent a free press.
The only part of the summit, other than a post-meeting news conference, that was visible to the public was Obama's eight-minute opening statement, which ended with the words: "I'm going to ask that we take a few moments to allow the press to exit before our first session."

"I'm going to ask that we take a few moments to allow the press to exit before our first session." ???????
As Rush concluded, the press was shut out because there was nothing to report. Although I'd like to see someone come up with the final pricetag for this piece of political theater.
All to continue propping up the ego of a destructive and egomaniacal leader more people are wising up to each day. All to divert attention from the continuing strong arm tactics and power grabs. Next up: regulations that will allow Obama to seize control of corporations he doesn't like (maybe if they object to his policies or donate to opposing candidates?) It's already passed the House - mmm-hmmm, while the government-controlled media treated us to the White House Easter Egg Roll/Presidential summons of the entire cast of Glee because that's his daughters' favorite TV show.
Whatever you do, pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
In the meantime Michelle is vacationing on some diplomatic (?) mission in Mexico.
Viva la regime!
