The Prince of Egypt: Moses and the burning bush

I first saw The Prince of Egypt in Hollywood - as part of a press junket invited for a special preview.

It was a luxurious affair - with rooms at the Ritz-Carleton, buses to the Dreamworks studio, a guided tour by Jeffrey Katzenburg, a candlelight dinner, and then a private screening in the plush private theater.

I was pinching myself the whole time - just an average mother of (then) 11, who to have almost accidentally become a writer and Christian film critic.

But in the pitch-black of the theater, sunk into an oversized plush seat, when I saw the following scene, I burst into tears:

Here I am

These words have been so important to me as a believer.

What do you want from me?

The Prince of Egypt is a powerful movie - no matter that is was crafted by Hollywood rather than a Christian organization. God is not limited, but can work through surprising channels to get His message across :)

If you haven't seen it, you need to put it on your Netflix queue or see if your library has it, or invest in a family copy from Amazon.

Love,

Our family LOVES this movie! We also have Joseph-King of Dreams. Which is much harder to find now but still a great movie!

We bought the Prince Of Egypt when it first came out on video. At that time and even now, it has, in my opinion, one of the very best musical scores of any movie I have ever watched.

That scene gets me too. I just feel that the producers, directors and writers did such an incredible job of portraying how God could easily have spoken to Moses at that time and how Moses was convinced that he was to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. It speaks to me on a level that no other section of dialogue in a movie has spoken to me since.

Thansk for sharing it.

Watching this movie the first time had a profound effect on me, too. It was a time when I was experiencing doubts and wrestling with the responsibilities that come with being a committed Catholic Christian. Loving God through the people around us and persevering no matter what can be very tough at times, and it was during one of those times that God orchestrated things thereby leading me to see this movie. What a blessing!

The lyrics of the theme song "When you believe" also touched me.

Thank you for sharing your experience regarding your covering the premiere, Barbara.
