At Round Hill's 2nd grade publishing party

hughes class.JPG

I spent a wonderful Friday morning at Mrs. Hughes' 2nd grade publishing party at Round Hill Elementary School.

I may have been the guest professional writer, but boy, was I impressed at how these students had used their imaginations and publishing skills to produce tri-fold brochures, informational texts, picture books, chapter books - all kinds of material.

I asked the kids what the difference was between a published author and a professional author. It used to be that they were one and the same. Now that anyone can be published, however, the professional is simply someone people will pay to read.

I was pretty excited to think that I could possibly be speaking to someone who will one day be a professional writer. I told them that if that happens, they have to remember to look me up and let me know!

Love,
