Child-sized vacuums and brooms

Someone linked through my site - thank you! - to buy a child's Hoover, which reminded me of the days when I had kids young enough.

My advice is that if your child is big enough to use the real vacuum, let him. But if you want to give your child an early start - which Montessori recommends as it makes for joyful learning - you might think about one of these:

Hi Barbara,

I've got that third one, the little broom/dustpan set. We don't have the mop, but then I use a steam mop for my floors (and I don't think my 2 year old needs to be messing with that. That steam is HOT).

He just LOVES running around with that broom, "cleaning" the house. Every parent I personally know is happily amazed and shocked that he enjoys helping me and hubby clean the house and wish their own kids did that. In fact, he gets mad at me when I leave an empty soda can on the coffee table and marches it to the recycle bin. What a good boy!
