Barbara's books on sale

Friday was the last day of school, so we are catching our collective breath and preparing for a busy summer. First up: Maddy is speaking/singing at the Right to Life Convention on Friday. She is planning on preparing a Power Point presentation (so proud of her!) and we were going to go to Costco to buy her a laptop when I made the discovery that we are completely out of funds.

That may sound strange to some people and not so strange to others. I remember when money was not an issue for us at all. Now we live paycheck to paycheck and much more simply. I actually like it. We watched Brother Sun, Sister Moon for the umpteenth time Friday night and it was a great reminder that with detachment from the material comes a freedom you can't find otherwise.

And yet there are needs that crop up like this. I want to support Maddy's pro-life work by getting her a laptop. I am in the process of fulfilling requests for four other pro-life events between now in January - in Hew England, Nevada and DC. I'm thinking that as she is inspired to put together this presentation (they have given her 1 1/2 hours) it will be useful in the future too.

So I thought, why not do my annual August booksale now. Perhaps some of you have been thinking about buying my books but never gotten around to it. If so, there's no better time than now. Here's my annual announcement:

*sigh*

These books aren't doing anyone any good sitting on my shelf - or tucked away in boxes in closets. I really want you all to have them -

The problem is - and I never knew this before being published - authors have to buy their own books. I pay around half the retail (around 6.50 per book) plus shipping to get them to my house.

Then I wait for people to buy them. Then I pay paypal for handling the transaction.

Still, I really want them off my shelf and out of my closets and in the hands of people who want to read them. So I'm repeating the deal I cooked up last August:

Buy three, get one free! - Any assortment of my books you want. Right now, I'm listing my books for 9.99 - you can see them all here.

Shipping is a flat $3 in the US no matter how many books you buy.

To take advantage of this offer, order three books using the paypal cart, then email me and tell me which book you want free. I will autograph the books and send them within 24 hours. (If paypal charges you the old amount, I will issue a refund for the difference).

If you buy six, you get two free - nine, three free. And so on.

Why would you want to buy so many books? Well, you might get them for presents for baby showers. You might want to do a study group with a group of moms to talk about what you've read. Though they're not Bible studies, I know some groups of moms have done this with Lord, Please Meet Me in the Laundry Room and The Mommy Manual [the Mommy Manual is now out of print, but I have secured rights to it and am getting ready to republish it myself. But no copies today, sorry]. I could see a group of moms who wanted to get into the Montessori at home approach with preschoolers might be encouraged by forming a small group to read, meet and discuss Mommy, Teach Me! and Mommy, Teach Me to Read!.

If you can't afford the books, I still want you to read them. Go to your local library and see if they are there (they're in mine). If not, ask them to order them for you (they'll probably go to the publisher for them, which is fine with me - as long as everyone who wants to read them has a chance.

If you are wondering about the books, please look them up at amazon and read the reader reviews to see what other mothers have to say about them.

Here are three reviews of Mommy, Teach Me! and Mommy, Teach Me to Read!:

In the blink of an eye it will be September - and I always find September is a great time for making a fresh start with children! These books are so reader-friendly - it's a great way to get yourself prepared.

Also, if you would like to make a donation to Maddy's laptop, you may do it via my paypal account. Just note that it is for Maddy. If you have kids, she will be happy to send them an autographed glossy photo as a way of saying thanks.

Love,

For Christmas I got a netbook. I love it. I carry it everywhere and use it where ever there is wifi. My son has been using it like crazy for school especially for power point presentations.

The best part about this is the price. I was a bit upset that I got such an extravagant Christmas gift since we are on an "austerity regiment" here that has let up a little from when we nearly lost our house, but still we have to watch our money. Then I found out that with coupon, they got the thing for less than $200, and 5 of them pitched in $40 a piece for it. Wonderful pricing. Want to get the youngest one the same for his birthday. Can't get a coupon but saw one at TRUS for about $200 which is the best I can find. Maybe better on line. But it is a great deal.
