Laura Ingraham: Obama gulf oil address empty platitudes
I agree with Laura - and practically everyone left and right who has judged Obama's disaster talk a disaster.
I think the problem is the lack of sincerity. Obama truly doesn't care what happens to our country and our people. He campaigned for and won a position of power and prestige. He enjoys the many perks - the constant partying, expensive trappings, and the chance to denigrate the America he and Michelle have always despised - but the problems Americans face annoy him.
Especially the unexpected. He doesn't even bother to comment on floods or other disasters in places like Arkansas or Nashville - flyover America that means nothing to him. Doesn't send aid or ask our fellow Americans to pitch in.
He partied and vacationed for 40 some days before public pressure necessitated his "acting" presidential. But his hearts not in it and neither are his cohorts, who couldn't even come up with a good fake speech.
The Media's promised Messiah doesn't have the love of his people to sacrifice for them. But more importantly, as so many warned, he doesn't have the executive experience to run a hot dog stand, much less a country.
I heard Mitt Romney being interviewed yesterday - now there's a person who's been successful at crisis management - and he outlined clearly the steps that would have immediately been taken by any executive worth their salt. The key word is immediate. ecause of Obama's dilly-dallying, this leak spun way out of control - which is why we're facing a crisis of epic proportions rather than one which could have been managed and contained early on.
The Obama administration turned down offers of help from other countries who had experience and resources. Why?
The only answer can be that they didn't care. And now, now that the crisis has spun out of control and threatens to further destabilize our economy and America's future, they are using it to back their suicidal Cap and Trade, which has nothing to do with oil management.
Despite the fact that in 60 years of offshore American drilling this is the first catastrophe, Obama seizes the occasion to further drag America into collapse by banning further drilling. Wouldn't that be like shutting down air travel because of one accident?
It is so plain that rather than trying earnestly to deal with this crisis in a way that would minimize the damage, O&Co have fiddled like Nero, waiting until it was bad enough that the American people - whom they still underestimate - would be desperate enough to give them what they have always wanted: more control.
Anyway - Laura puts it simply and succinctly:

June 17, 2010Leading us on...
My reaction to the President's Oval Office address on the Gulf Coast crisis can be summed up in one word--WHAT?! Of all the unconvincing and unfocused points Barack Obama made, one really stood out: "[W]hat has defined us as a nation since our founding is the capacity to shape our destiny--our determination to fight for the America we want for our children. Even if we're unsure exactly what that looks like. Even if we don't yet know precisely how we're going to get there. We know we'll get there."
This is the type of circular blather one would expect to hear in the Harvard faculty lounge, not from the President in a time of crisis. He tells us he is "unsure" about exactly what kind of America we want for our children or "how we're going to get there." But somehow he "knows we'll get there." Call me crazy, but how will we know when we "get there" if we're "unsure" what it looks like? My head is still spinning.
Of course that's what liberalism is--promises and pronouncements untethered to reality. It is cotton candy rhetoric; spun to taste good for a moment. But then it dissolves in an instant, leaving you feeling sick and disgusted that you tried it in the first place.
With the daunting economic, military, and environmental challenges we now face, America craves a competent, experienced chief executive. In President Obama, we see a man who is horribly ill-equipped for real world decision-making and crisis management. (Unless the crisis involves whether to invite Shakira or Beyonce to a White House soiree.) Even worse, he doesn't know what he doesn't know. This means he doesn't even know enough to bring on the best and the brightest people to critical posts. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar inspire zero confidence. The same can be said of the rest of Obama's cabinet.
No amount speechifying or demonizing the enemy (whether it's BP or the GOP) will save the Administration. In the end, results are what count. We want to see our president fighting every day to make America richer, stronger, and more influential. Instead, more often than not, we feel that Barack Obama and his merry band of radicals are fighting against us, our prosperity, and our freedoms.
Mr. President, most of us know the type of America we want for our children, and we know how to get there. The first step requires giving the boot to politicians who are so arrogant and out of touch they think there is a political solution to every problem and the rules of accountability don't apply to them.

I love Laura! I like the O'Reilly Factor better when she is the guest host! As for our POTUS, he is a total embarrassment. I pray everday that our beloved U.S.A. can survive his presidency.

You said it well, Barbara. I always love your commentary. I think he intentionally let it get this bad so he could sell cap & trade. He is such an awful president. It's just too much some days.
