Obamas try- and fail - at humble 4th of July
Living near DC gives us a unique perspective as we are constantly aware of the president's activities - which didn't used to be so bad as most of the time presidents were in the White House governing the country.
Obama has changed all that. On those rare occasions when he is at the White House, there's a whirlwind of fancy parties, expensive food, or his many photo ops "grabbing a burger" - with elite transportation, security and hoopla at your expense - across the Potomac in Virginia. We're talking about a guy - and his three women - who can order any food he wants night or day from the White House Chef. But Noooooo. He wants us to see pictures of him in rolled-up shirt sleeves at Rays.
Do you all know he even took the Russian president there for an unprecedented (this administration's favorite word) photo op?

Doesn't it just give you a rosy glow to see your president is such a normal human being? I mean, that's what it's supposed to do - at least that's my conclusion.
Then there's the high camp performance art of having this International Home Boy Moment occur almost simultaneously as the round-up of Russian spies. What are we supposed to make of that? Or are the Russians supposed to believe that Obama is good cop to the US bad cop? The usual Obama disconnect from his our country.
It's definitely hard to keep up with Our Glorious Leader, except to note where he's not: The Gulf oil Spill or the Oval Office. Friday Night the Royal Family left in a flurry of helicopters for Camp David. . .
But surprised us all by coming home Sunday July 4 for a good old-fashioned White House Barbecue!
The military is just so handy for this regime. Whenever Obama's handlers decide he needs a little pick-me-up in the Regular Guy department, they throw some lower/middle class event - not at all like the $100 steaks for the celebrities they are so fond of - and round up a bunch of military families to serve as backdrop for the Obamas' new casual clothes:
Still, they always give themselves away somehow, like yesterday when they addressed the bused-in crowd from a balcony, a la Juan and Evita Peron:

Yep, use the military to his advantage because he knows that when he drops the order, we have to obey. I'm sure MANY of those military families would rather have been elsewhere. Nice feeling it gives knowing the greatest fighting force in the world is at his beck and call. (sarc)
