Homeschool furniture - forever table and chairs

I know you can do homeschool anywhere, anytime, anyhow, but I appreciated having a dedicated space, so we gave up our family room. Also, since we had so many children, it made sense to invest in furniture that was serviceable and durable. You used to be able to buy these indestructible school tables from school supply stores - which I did. But now they're available Amazon! Normally $310, this table is 62% off plus free shipping.

I have written about the joy of investing in REAL school tables before. The legs are adjustable so they grow with your children - and they are virtually indestructible. I still have the very first table I bought in 1990 and used for 10 kids, and the surface looks as good as new. It also has adjustable legs, but this one is 6 feet across and I used to sit in the indented part and spread five kids out across from me, each doing their own work and my being able to help them as they needed. This table - normally $512 - is also 62% off and free shipping:

You could use any chairs, but I chose the standard school supply ones too:

The price is for sets of four. They are pricey, but definitely made to last a lifetime. I still have my original set of large chairs - and just passed on the smallest set to a young homeschooling mom. Twenty years of use and still ready to serve!

They are easy to clean, stackable and light enough for kids to carry. They come in different colors and different heights (you can find a size chart here).

I was reminded of this this morning because someone just ordered a table and chairs through my Amazon link. I am so happy to see this because this is a purchase which is so worth it. Our family doesn't have many things that have served us so well for 20 years.

And thanks to whoever remembered to use my link!

I just saw a nifty and frugal alternative to the bookshelf. It's a "book sling" made from fabric and curtain rods: http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/book-sling-919473/

Thanks Barbara, we will start our first year of homeschool this fall with our 4 yo twin girls. I have been looking at school sales and tag sales for a round table for my girls - this is perfect!
