Loudoun Sheriff: Citizen's Police Academy begins 9/7

loudoun sheriff.jpgThis sounds intriguing - I hope some of my readers want to sign up:

Loudoun Sheriff's Office Announces 27th Citizen's Police Academy

Loudoun Sheriff Steve Simpson announces the formation of the 27th Citizen's Police Academy, which will commence on Tuesday, September 7, 2010.

The free sessions will be held one evening per week from September 7th through November 16th. Each session will be held from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Class locations will be announced prior to the upcoming session.

Sheriff's Office personnel will conduct the training classes, providing an overview of all the aspects of law enforcement within the agency. Members of the class may also have the option of participating in a ride-a-long with a deputy after completing the academy.

The classes are open to Loudoun County residents over the age of 18. To enroll in the Citizen's Police Academy, please contact Bonnie Burke at the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office at (703)771-5722, during normal business hours of 8:30 AM. to 5:00 PM.

Registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Enrollment is limited to 40 participants.

My husband did this in our small town in Michigan and enjoyed it immensely. He was glad for the chance to get to know our local law enforcers and meet other members of our community. In the end, he had a lot of fun and learned a lot about how our police protect our town.
