Loudoun Christmas: public hearing 6:30 tonight
I love this picture, which shows the attachment children feel to the tradition of the Nativity on the Leesbaurg Courthouse lawn. Who are these arrogant Supervisors to bring up this matter again after it was resolved last year? For the third time now, we need to schlep down to yet another public input meeting - when all the signals they are sending say they care more about a handful of noisy atheists than the sensibilities of thousands of residents who'd rather continue quietly minding their own business but who've been stirred to action by the same arrogance we are seeing at every level of government today.
It looks like there will be a huge turnout tonight for the public hearing concerning tomorrow night's vote by the Board of Supervisors to ban holiday displays by private citizens on the Leesburg Courthouse grounds.
Please join us - I hear there will be many large families.
You may still sign the petition. And you may sign up to speak upon arriving at the Loudoun County Government Center, 1 Harrison Street, S.E. in Leesburg.
Many feel that for the BOS, this is a done deal. They have solicited an opinion signed by 8 local judges recommending that they proceed with their plans to ban displays (a tradition dating back from before most of us were born) because they might cause a disturbance.
They've never caused a disturbance before.
And since when do we curtail First Amendment rights based on a future possibility?
See my next two entries for a copy of the Judges' opinion and my letter seeking legal representation in this matter.
