Loudoun County Schools - your input on 2011 start date
August school start considered in Loudoun County
September 17, 2010 - 6:00amWASHINGTON - Loudoun County Public Schools may change next year's school start date to before Labor Day.The county is eligible for an August start because the school system lost so many days to snow last winter.
In Virginia, most students do not return to school until after Labor Day because of a law commonly known as the "King's Dominion Law" that's intended to protect the state's tourism industry.
The proposed start date for the 2011-2012 Loudoun school calendar is Aug. 29, 2011.
"A lot of people say the kids are off too long in the summer, that they lose a lot from the year before. There's a lot of makeup work to do when they come back to school," says spokesman Wade Byard.
Classes would end June 8, 2012, eight days earlier than this school year.
"A lot of people complain that the beginning of June into mid-June is wasted class time," Byard says.
Before the school board votes on the change Oct. 12, members want to get your opinion. Read the proposed school calendar and e-mail the board at Twitter

Here in TX, school starts mid-August and ends in the beginning of June. That way at least part of the summer is cool enough to enjoy, lol.
