Armenian Down syndrome adoption
My last post on the last day of National Adoption Month:
On May 28, 2009, I received this email:
Hi Barbara,We are in the early stages of adopting a little boy from Armenia who has been blessed with Down Syndrome. He is 10 months old, and we hope to have him home by Christmas. We have three biological children, and are feeling called to grow our family through adoption. I have felt for a very long time that I would one day be the Mother of a child with DS, I can't explain why, it's just always been there.
Through reading your blog, the encouragement of my sister, and lots of prayer, we have decided now is the time to go for it. We already have a very busy and fulfilling life, we homeschool our 3 children, I am in the middle of nursing school, and I work part time. Many people do not see room in our life for a child with special needs, but we think having a strong family is all the more reason we should do this. We don't know for certain how this will turn out, we are a little scared and unsure, but mostly we feel like this will enhance the lives of everyone involved. We love this little boy already!
I just wanted to say thanks for your support of mothers everywhere, and for your posts about DS that seem to appear just when I need them the most!
Blessings,
JillP.S. We found our son on Rainbow Kids, and he is also on Reece's Rainbow
They didn't have him home by Christmas that year, but they did for Christmas 2010> Just received this update:
Barbara,I'm so happy to finally be updating you on our adoption. After a long wait, we brought our new son home in October of this year. Benjamin is doing wonderfully, and fitting right in with our other 3 children.
Thank you for being such an inspiration.
I have attached some pictures.
Love,
Jill
You can read about how Jill and her husband made their decision at A Leap of Faith
And about their Armenian adoption story, written by Jill's sister Jen at Forever, For Always, No Matter What.
I hope to hear from many moms who decide to embark on the adoption journey this year, hope you will keep my updated and share the joyous news when you bring your children home.
As John Paul II said, "To adopt a child is a great work of love. When it is done, much is given, but much is also received. It is a true exchange of gifts."

Thank you for bringing these little ones to the attention of your readers. We have been blessed with the placement of a special needs boy into our home from the American foster care system. His diagnosis is cerebral palsy. There are so many children, so many needs, but we can all do something.

Thank you Jill for adopting one of our Down Syndrome babies, it was so giving of you and your family.
This is particularly an act of kindness taking this on with no down syndrome children and your rewards will be in raising your new son.
Thank you
